THANK YOU to all the supporters who helped make this year's North Texas Gives to Animals fundraiser a huge success for Mid-Cities Community Cats!
🙏🐾😸❤️

Thanks to your generosity, we raised $5,265 in donations and will receive matching funds of $490 from the Communities Foundation of Texas. The foundation is covering all transaction fees, so all funds will go directly to improve life for community cats with spay/neuter services and medical care.

These funds and other donations will help us continue our mission of serving hundreds of unowned, outdoor community cats in the months ahead. Again, THANK YOU!🐱

FIV Positive Cats:

We find that there are many misconceptions concerning FIV positive cats. Because of this misinformation, thousands of perfectly healthy, wonderful cats are needlessly killed every year.💔

It’s a tragedy and these misconceptions come from old school outdated science from decades ago and sadly the myth that FIV is a highly contagious, immediate death sentence still continue in many communities and shelters.😥

‼️We suggest that if a veterinarian ever suggests euthanizing a healthy cat solely because of a positive FIV test without any underlying, untreatable illness, we urge pet owners to seek a second opinion from a more progressive, updated clinic.‼️

Please understand, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is absolutely NOT a reason to euthanize an otherwise healthy cat. Modern veterinary guidelines, which include the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), clearly state that a positive test alone should NEVER be a death sentence.

Many cats diagnosed with FIV live long, comfortable, and completely symptom-free lives, often reaching normal life expectancy of 13 to 18 years.

Essential Truths About FIV:
🐱It is a slow-acting virus: FIV is a retrovirus that gradually reduces the efficiency of a cat's immune system over several years. It is not an immediate or painful illness on its own.
🐱It is highly species-specific: The virus can only be transmitted to other felines. Humans, dogs, and all other household pets are completely immune.
🐱Casual contact does not spread it: FIV cannot be passed through shared food bowls, water, grooming, litter boxes, or snuggling.
🐱Deep bite wounds are the main vector: The virus is primarily shed in saliva and must enter another cat's bloodstream through a deep, penetrating bite wound, typically seen in territorial outdoor fighting.
🐱False Positives: Kittens under six months old born to FIV-positive mothers will often test positive because they carry the mother's antibodies, not the virus itself. Sadly, many are put down before being re-tested at a later age when they would actually test negative.
🐱Outdated Shelter Policies: Some shelters still use old protocols that mandate euthanizing any cat that tests positive, simply because they lack the understanding the importance of educating adopters.

❤️Today is the last opportunity to support Mid-Cities Community Cats during the 2026 North Texas Gives to Animals fundraising campaign, which ends at midnight Sunday, May 31.❤️

As an example of the work we do, please watch this short video from a recent situation where a well-meaning homeowner was feeding community cats and enjoying watching them – but not getting them spayed and neutered. One day she looked out her window and realized the number of cats and kittens was becoming unmanageable. Leaving them unfixed had caused a continuing wave of unwanted kittens being born to live difficult, often short lives outdoors.

After the homeowner contacted M-CCC, our volunteers came to the rescue and assisted with Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) to stop the flow of kittens. We also provided medical care to return several of the community cats and kittens to health after we found them suffering eye and upper respiratory infections.

Your generous donations make this kind of response and support possible.

A big “thank you” to those who have already donated to M-CCC during North Texas Gives to Animals. For others, there is still time to make a positive difference in the lives of unowned community cats with your tax-deductible contribution.

YES!!!! And unfortunately… some people who TNVR/TNR and even some vets don’t seem to understand this!

The word needs to get out to those who TNVR/TNR but also to veterinarians.

Please when TNVR/TNRing …only test if a cat is sick… to help determine best way to treat for the illness… not to have a cat needlessly put down if the cat can be successfully treated just bc the snap test shows positive for FIV.

Community cats are typically resilient, healthy and thriving animals, yet they can face two significant health challenges that can have a profound impact: eye and upper respiratory infections, both preventable and treatable.

At Mid-Cities Community Cats (M-CCC), we empower these remarkable animals by providing critical care, starting with vaccinations and treatment, to enhance their lives.

The FVRCP distemper vaccine, administered to kittens and cats alike as part of our comprehensive TNVR/TNR protocol, is a powerful tool in preventing these infections or reducing their severity.

Thanks to our volunteers, our feline friends receive a healthy foundation for their return to outdoor life. But to achieve that, some community cats require full-service veterinary care due to existing URI eye infection symptoms, which can lead to blindness if left untreated.

Through dedication and compassion, M-CCC volunteers sometimes face unexpected various medical needs for the unowned community cats. Multiple vet visits can often add to the complexity and cost of medical cases.

Your generosity during the North Texas Gives to Animals fundraising campaign will enable us to continue our life-changing work. Give hope and health to community cats by donating online before May 31 at

On behalf of M-CCC volunteers and our feline friends, thank you for your kindness.🙏❤️🐾🐱

Mission Update: Cat Burglary, Lifesaving Rescues & How You Can Help!
A bank is usually meant for deposits, but last week, it delivered a literal bundle of joy.

Mid-Cities Community Cats is participating in the North Texas Gives to Animals Campaign, now through May 30, so it’s a good time to highlight the full range of M-CCC’s mission.

While our focus is Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) and needed medical care we find during TNVR/TNR projects of unowned outdoor community cats, we often find other ways to help.

A recent event is a good example.
M-CCC heard about a situation where four cats were living outdoors frolicking near a bank.
A bank customer saw them and kept them fed through the winter, but things got dicey when employees noticed that the felines had a found a way to get INSIDE the bank (aka “cat burglars”).

The bank contacted their city’s Animal Services, who said they would likely end up euthanizing the cats if the business captured them and brought them in. As if that didn’t sound bad enough, one bank employee even threatened to poison the cats. 😳😤

Mid-Cities Community Cats learned about the situation and one of our volunteers went to the scene to help. She trapped all four cats and moved them to a safer place, but that wasn’t the end of the story.

Three of the cats were taken to a clinic to be neutered, but one gave birth to kittens soon after being captured.

Today, all the cats and the kittens are safe with a foster and because all are friendly, they are being transferred to an adoption partner.

While M-CCC is not a cat removal service and does not usually handle kittens or adoptions, sometimes things like this come with the territory when we do TNVR.

Donations are vital to keep our TNVR mission going.
Please join the North Texas Gives to Animals Movement by Supporting
M-CCC.

This extraordinary rescue is exactly why M-CCC’s work matters. While our primary daily focus is TNVR and providing medical care to unowned, outdoor community cats we find during TNVR/TNR projects, we won’t hesitate to step in when an animal's life is on the line.

Right now, M-CCC is participating in the North Texas Gives to Animals campaign hosted by the Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT).
* The Goal: We need to raise $8,000 to fund TNVR, surgeries and critical medical care for the rest of the year.
* The Deadline: This special fundraising window closes on May 31.
* 100% Impact: Communities Foundation of Texas is generously covering all transaction and technology fees, meaning every single penny you donate goes straight to helping unowned community cats

HANDLING THE UNEXPECTED WHEN CONDUCTING TNVR/TNR

When TNVRing, sometimes our volunteers encounter things they didn't expect.🥺

Recently, M-CCC received a plea for help for a very large TNVR project that also involved a hearing impaired community member. Since one of our volunteers knows sign language, she felt compelled to help with the plea. Before long they had already TNVRed eight community cats.

Tuesday morning, as they were returning four more TNVRed community cats after surgery, they noticed on the side of the house an old, worn and dirty Rubbermaid tub they hadn’t seen before. The volunteers also heard kittens crying.

As they walked towards the Rubbermaid tub, they found two very dirty, malnourished kittens. They don’t know who placed the tub at this homeowner's property, but because the homeowner is hearing impaired, she never heard anyone placing the tub on the side of the home or heard the kittens crying.

The volunteers suspect that someone close by has seen the volunteer activity of setting traps and helping the homeowner with the community cat situation, and decided to abandon the kittens there.
The kittens are not even a pound in weight and need a lot of TLC. The poor kittens were so hungry and are barely weaned and now just able to eat gruel. Whoever placed the kittens in the dirty tub, only gave them some hard dried up kibble which the kittens weren’t able to eat. Poor babies were STARVING!

Since they are so young, they can be socialized and will eventually need to be transferred to an adoption partner.

The kittens will need to be medically assessed, treated for all parasites and to receive other vet care, which will cost a lot of money.

M-CCC desperately needs your support during the "North Texas Gives to Animals" fund drive, now through May 31, so we can help these unowned, outdoor community cats and many others like them.
