God does not change His nature. What does the Bible say? ANSWER "2026"
The Bible clearly affirms that God does not change in His nature, character, promises, or faithfulness. This doctrine is known as the immutability of God. Here are the key verses that declare this: Key verses—Malachi 3:6 (the most direct): "For I am the Lord, I do not change; and you, O children of Jacob, have not been consumed." God explains that His constancy is the reason He did not destroy Israel despite their unfaithfulness. James 1:17:
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
God is compared to the Father of heavenly lights, which do not vary like shadows. Hebrews 13:8:
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
This applies to Christ, who is fully God. Numbers 23:19:
"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (See also 1 Samuel 15:29). Psalm 102:26-27:
"They [the heavens and the earth] will perish, but You will endure; they will all grow old like a garment... But You are the same, and Your years will have no end."
Other important references. Other passages emphasize that God is faithful, that His promises are sure, and that He does not change like human beings (Psalm 119:89–90; Hebrews 6:17–18; Isaiah 40:28, etc.). In summary, the Bible teaches that God is immutable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. This brings great comfort: in a changing world, we can rely on a constant God whose love, justice, and promises do not fluctuate.
