Last Thursday, May 7th- broke ground on the new Fire Station 2, a major step forward for our community and our members.
Station 2 has proudly served this city since 1954. For more than 70 years, it’s been home to generations of firefighters and countless apparatus — most recently Engine 2 and Medic 2. Medic 2, our 5th ambulance, came online in 2018 in response to rising call volumes, and our crews have been working hard to meet that growing demand ever since.
We’re excited for a contemporary, purpose-built station designed with firefighter health, safety, and wellness as top priorities. Features that reduce cancer risks, improve decontamination, provide better sleep and recovery areas, and support both physical and mental wellness mean our members can serve you better and go home safer. This new station represents the next chapter.
This event's turnout was outstanding, and we are incredibly grateful for the support shown by our community and city leadership. There are far too many people that showed up to individually recognize. We especially want to thank the Mayor, City Council members, city leadership, fire administration, planning committees, the building planners/design team, and everyone else whose hard work and dedication helped make this project a reality. Your continued support of public safety does not go unnoticed.
We know construction may temporarily impact parking at City Hall, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to minimize disruptions and keep access as smooth as possible throughout the project.
We’re proud of our history at Station 2, and even more excited for the future. This new facility will help us serve you better, faster, and safer for decades to come.
