A new chapter begins. 💙

As Michelle Lantz concludes seven years of impactful leadership as CEO of Greater Lansing Food Bank in September, we are excited to welcome Cara Gabris as GLFB’s next CEO on October 5.

An MSU alumna, Gabris will bring nearly a decade of food bank leadership and operations, most recently at The Community FoodBank of New Jersey and previously at Houston Food Bank, the nation’s largest food bank by distribution.

With a shared commitment to fighting food insecurity and strengthening access to nutrition across mid-Michigan, this transition reflects both gratitude for the past and optimism for the future.

When money is tight, food is often the first place families are forced to cut back. A cheaper option here, a skipped item there, stretching groceries just a little further each week. But when those choices become routine, the impact reaches far beyond the dinner table.

For working parents like Cicely Wyatt, a single mother of five, food assistance helps close the gap between what a family earns and what it actually costs to meet basic needs. Because no parent should have to wonder how they'll feed their children, and every family deserves the stability that comes from having nutritious food within reach.

Last Tuesday, our first-ever group of Junior Food Fighters proved that even small actions can make a big impact. 💙 Through their volunteer efforts at the food bank, 23 dedicated teens helped support neighbors facing hunger while learning more about the importance of nutrition and agriculture.

A special thank you to Milk Means More for presenting to our group and sharing the story behind Michigan's dairy industry, healthy eating habits and the journey food takes from farm to table. By combining service with education, our Junior Food Fighters gained a deeper understanding of how communities, farmers and food banks work together to fight hunger and build a healthier future.
