The Canadys Station gas plant could have drastic effects on the environment and community health and well-being, and raise energy costs. Now, it's time to have your voices heard at the SC Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) public hearing on Tuesday, October 20 at 6 p.m. at the Walterboro Wildlife Center.
Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper are requesting an air permit from SCDES for the proposed Canadys gas plant along the Edisto River in Colleton County to create the largest gas plant in the state. The plant would be built at a former coal-fired power plant site in an area that has already endured decades of industrial pollution.
We need SCDES to hold this gas plant accountable and set real limits on air pollution, require consistent air quality monitoring, and reflect public transparency. Gas plants like this do not belong along our pristine waters.
Attend the public hearing on October 20 and submit a comment to SCDES before October 27.
