We had to say goodbye to our sweet Dakota today. His colon twisted and he couldn't get up he was in severe pain, he ate his breakfast and within a couple hours he was gone. I don't know how or why that happened the vet said it happens nothing that we could forsee. He was rescued a year and a half ago very skinny spots of fur missing. We brought him back to the way a horse is intended to look and feel. Sweet oh boy very he would let me groom him and he loved it, so did I.
We rescue these poor animals from bad situations to live the rest of their lives here. The time together seems short, but they do get to have caring and love in what time they have left.
RIP Dakota we will miss you.

UPDATE: Sophie came home today her surgery went well she is doing fine. We have her in our extra stall we use for new arrivals and get well. She seems to be moving around, well guess she had months of practice since her leg was so badly broken. She's won't be in pain anymore. Sophie has had a ruff time before she came to us so now she gets to relax and play with the other goats and be a goat.
Thank you to all that donated to her cause it is so greatly appreciated with everyone's generosity we can keep helping animals that have been neglected.

This little girl was brought to us with a bad leg that she could not walk on. Brought her to the vet today and that rear leg that was just dangling there the vet said that it had multiple breaks and didn't heal right and looked like it was like that for several months. I can't imagine the pain she's been in. That leg unfortunately needs to be amputated. We were told that goats can maneuver on three legs we will make sure she's comfortable. Also she's pregnant. The vet said she will not be able to carry the kids on one leg and then carry the milk. She will lose her kid or kids which is very upsetting. This poor girl got into the hands of someone that didn't take care of her, now she's here at the Sanctuary and she will get better and live the rest of her life comfortable and loved.
Her surgery is Thursday say a prayer 🙏 for her and if you could make a donation for her please remit on Zelle 815 355 3505

Finally finished fencing the back 10 acres. We did it ourselves and a good friend helped on weekends when he could. Started Memorial Day weekend and just finished this Labor Day weekend. The extreme hot summer made it a bit difficult to get it done in a timely manner but seeing all the animals enjoying all that space is a wonderful feeling. Getting the space for their well being is everything.

Had my Ferrier out yesterday to trim some horses. Dakota was one of them, here are a before and after pics. It has been a while and the ferrier made them look awesome. We have more horses to trim but we need to stager it because of funds.
