DECLASSIFIED: The spy plane nobody could touch.
At the height of the Cold War, America built an aircraft so secret that the CIA bought its titanium from the Soviet Union through dummy companies. That's the same country it was built to spy on.
It flew 16 miles up, faster than a r***e bullet. Enemy missiles were fired at it more than 1,000 times. Not one was ever lost to enemy action.
Its world speed record of 2,193 mph, set in 1976, STILL stands today.
This is the SR-71 Blackbird. And on Veterans Day weekend, you'll hear its story from someone who was there.
"UNTOUCHABLE": Insights From the Flight Line
with Retired MSgt. Elwin R. Hall, USAF, who spent many years keeping the Blackbird flying.
This is the inside story from the maintenance side. It's the part the public never got to hear.
