Let’s talk about Baby…
She was rescued from the house of horrors in Jacksonville on April 12th, 2025. Many of you know the case I’m talking about but if you don’t I included a photo of just one of many horrifying scenes we discovered to jog your memory.
Of over 30 dogs she’s one of the only ones to not yet be adopted. However, we can’t say that she isn’t loved.
The other day her foster reached out. Baby was reluctant to get up. Lethargic. Urinating a ton. We got her in to be seen ASAP.
It turns out that she has developed diabetes. For a dog that knew absolutely nothing but neglect and lived in putrid filth caked in f***s and urine, she’s come a long way. She has a clean bed at her foster home and safety and security.
The fosters grand daughter sent me this picture of Baby’s foster laying on the floor with her telling her she’s so sorry she’s going through this. Her abuser may have taken her first 8 years of her life and she may be facing a medical challenge, but just LOOK at that photo. The universe provided her with a human that cares. A human that noticed a change and asked for help. A human that now has to give her insulin injections twice a day and is willing to do so.
Their relationship is beautiful. Honestly I’m surprised she hasn’t foster failed yet and I rarely ever pressure my fosters to foster fail but come on how precious are they together?!?🥹🥹🥹.
So, how can you help? If you’ve ever had a dog with diabetes you know that the insulin for them is expensive and there’s no cheaper alternative. We’re estimating about $200 a month. Is that too much to ask for a rescue dog? Maybe. However, there’s something in my heart that just has to always try to undo a wrong. Baby was abused. Neglected. Literally facing a future of wasting away and dying in a crate and decaying like so many other dogs in the same house did. She made it out.
