Aurora EMS had a great time visiting Cow Jumped Over the Moon Daycare for Community Helper Week!

We brought along Responder 5 and one of our ambulances, and we were joined by Engine 612 from Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department and a deputy from the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office.

The kids had the opportunity to check out each of the emergency vehicles up close, see some of the equipment we use, and learn a little about what EMS, firefighters, and law enforcement do to help keep our communities safe.

We always enjoy getting the chance to spend time with the kids in our community and introduce them to the people and equipment they may see during an emergency.

Thank you to Cow Jumped Over the Moon Daycare for inviting us to be part of Community Helper Week, and thank you to Dillsboro Fire Department and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department for joining us!

Aurora EMS is proud to recognize two of our own, Tracy and Sophie, who were presented with the Cardiac Arrest Save Commendation by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS).

This commendation recognizes their efforts in the successful resuscitation of a patient experiencing cardiac arrest. Moments like these demonstrate the importance of rapid response, quality patient care, and the dedication our providers bring to the community every day.

Aurora EMS is proud to share another special milestone in our 75th year of service!

Members of Aurora EMS were invited to Indianapolis, where we were honored to receive the Half-Century Award, presented by Indiana Governor Mike Braun in recognition of more than 50 years of dedicated service.

For 75 years, generations of EMS professionals have answered the call and served Aurora and the surrounding communities. This recognition belongs to every past and present member who has helped shape Aurora EMS into the organization it is today.

A special thank you goes to EMS Director David Phelps for his work in making this recognition possible and for his continued dedication to Aurora EMS.

We are proud of where we came from, grateful for those who built the foundation before us, and excited to continue serving our community for generations to come.

Behind the Scenes at Aurora EMS

When the tones drop, our crews are ready to respond—but there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes to make that possible.

Between calls, our crews stay busy checking and restocking equipment, cleaning and preparing our ambulances, completing training, maintaining the station, and making sure everything is ready for the next emergency.

Every piece of equipment has a place. Every medication has to be accounted for. Every ambulance has to be ready to go at a moment’s notice.

You may not always see the work that happens between calls, but it’s an important part of providing dependable emergency medical care to our community.

At Aurora EMS, being ready for the next call starts long before the tones drop.

As students head back to school, Aurora EMS would like to remind everyone to help make this school year a safe one.

Whether you’re driving, walking, biking, or waiting for the bus, a few simple actions can help prevent injuries and keep our children safe.

• Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
• Never pass a school bus when its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving.
• Watch carefully for children crossing streets, especially before and after school.
• Encourage students to use crosswalks and look both ways before crossing.
• Remind children to wear helmets when riding bicycles or scooters.

Every child deserves a safe trip to and from school. By staying alert and looking out for one another, we can all help make this a safe and successful school year.

This year, Aurora EMS proudly celebrates 75 years of serving our community.

What began in 1950 as a vision shared by a small group of dedicated volunteers has grown into an organization committed to providing compassionate, professional emergency medical care to generations of families throughout our community.

In the early days, there were no modern ambulances, no advanced life support, and little funding. Charter members worked tirelessly to raise money through community events, purchased the first ambulance in 1953, and even put their own personal finances on the line to ensure emergency medical services would continue. Their determination, sacrifice, and unwavering belief that our community deserved quality emergency care laid the foundation for everything Aurora EMS is today.

Over the past 75 years, Aurora EMS has witnessed tremendous advancements in emergency medicine. From a single panel truck staffed by volunteers trained in advanced first aid to today’s highly trained EMTs and advanced EMTs equipped with state-of-the-art technology, one thing has remained unchanged:

Our commitment to serving others.

Every member who has worn the Aurora EMS patch has contributed to our story. Whether answering a late-night emergency call, comforting a family during their most difficult moments, teaching lifesaving skills, or volunteering countless hours behind the scenes, each person has helped shape our legacy.

Today, Aurora EMS continues that tradition with advanced emergency medical care, community education, public outreach, and a commitment to serving Dearborn County and the surrounding communities with professionalism, compassion, and excellence.

As we celebrate this milestone, we remember those who came before us, thank those who continue to serve today, and look forward to the future with the same dedication that inspired our founders 75 years ago.

The National Weather Service is forecasting the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms later today. While not everyone will experience severe weather, now is the time to prepare.

Please take a few moments to:

* Secure loose outdoor furniture and decorations.
* Charge your cell phone and other essential devices.
* Stay informed by monitoring local weather forecasts and alerts.
* Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
* Move indoors immediately if you hear thunder.

If you must travel, use extra caution. Heavy rain can reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions. Never drive through flooded roadways. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Aurora EMS will be monitoring weather conditions throughout the day and stands ready to respond if needed. We encourage everyone to stay weather-aware and take the necessary precautions to keep yourself and your family safe.
