We're excited to announce the next round of wonderful art exhibits coming to our centers this week! The McLane Center is hosting Tracy Levesque's "Chromatic Nature" and here at the Massabesic Center we will be hosting Jyl Dittbenner's "Jyl Draws Everyday: A Creature Double Feature." More information on the exhibits below and on our Events Calendar.

🎨 Chromatic Nature: "Tracy Levesque’s chromatic acrylic paintings blur the line between fine art and illustration. Levesque’s stunning visual style creates a dramatic interplay between fantasy and bold realism, inviting viewers to engage with the intricacies of the natural world and the profoundly spiritual nature of landscape."

✏️ Jyl Draws Everyday: A Creature Double Feature: "With this body of work, Dittbenner started by exploring various creatures that serve as signs of spring. Particularly the peepers that sing us into the season, the salamanders and turtles trying to cross roads, and leading up to small furry animals. Later in the series, it became an opportunity to explore color as well." Celebrate Jyl's unique exhibit featuring colorful local wildlife drawings with NH Audubon staff and friends on the evening of September 3! RSVPs are appreciated.

The Massabesic Center is excited to announce our newest pollinator garden, courtesy of Magnus Kronvold, a Life-ranked Scout of Troop 1776, who completed the garden as part of his Eagle Scout Project. Gus approached NH Audubon with concern for pollinators and a desire to teach the public about the importance of pollinator conservation. Gus researched native plants, designed his plot, and secured a large donation of plants from Bagley Pond Perennials that he installed with cages and a rock border (all dug up from his garden site) to protect the young plants. Gus also coordinated long-term care and maintenance of this space with the Massabesic Garden Club, who volunteer their time and effort to the nearby Barn Garden. This project showcases community working together to protect the environment and we are so pleased to have been chosen as Gus’s host site.

Congratulations, Gus, and thank you for supporting NH Audubon and New Hampshire’s pollinators!

Happy World Snake Day!

Did you know?

Snakes are secondary seed dispersers! These incredible rodent predators do much more than help keep ecosystems balanced; they can also help native wildflowers spread and support healthy habitats for pollinators. Researchers studying certain western desert rattlesnake species found that after these snakes consumed seed-caching rodents, many seeds survived the digestive process, and some even began to germinate in the snakes’ lower intestines before being deposited back into the environment, where they could continue to grow. It’s an amazing reminder that snakes play a much bigger role in healthy ecosystems than many people realize!

For many people, snakes can bring feelings of fear or uncertainty, but learning more about these fascinating reptiles can help us see them in a new way and appreciate the important role they play in nature. At New Hampshire Audubon, we’re passionate about helping people replace fear with understanding. Every conversation, every encounter, and every question is an opportunity to learn about these remarkable reptiles and discover just how vital they are to our natural world.

Art Walk in the Garden is this weekend!

Join us for a special celebration of nature, art, and community here at New Hampshire Audubon’s Massabesic Center on Saturday, July 11! This family-friendly gathering will feature local artists and delicious food truck eats from Cali Arepa. Discover the magic where art meets nature during this free event as you stroll at your own self-guided pace through our fully accessible scenic grounds. Original, local artworks will be thoughtfully placed throughout the gardens and along the All Persons Trail to complement the natural ambience of our sanctuary.
