Some stories change us forever. Katie’s is one of them.
Katie was the kind of person who made people feel seen — the friend who checked in, the sister who showed up, the woman whose kindness felt effortless. When she welcomed her baby boy into the world, she stepped into motherhood with the same quiet strength and fierce love she brought to everything in her life.
She had only eight days with her baby. Eight days of holding him, loving him, memorizing his face. Eight days that should have been the beginning of a lifetime.
But a severe complication in the days after childbirth ended her life far too soon.
Her loss shattered a family and a community — and it revealed something heartbreaking and urgent: too many mothers are still dying from complications we can prevent.
Shine Her Light was created to make sure no other family has to endure what hers did.
Every time we teach someone the warning signs…
Every time we advocate for better maternal care…
Every time we support a mother facing a high‑risk pregnancy…
We carry Katie’s light forward.
Her story is not just a memory. It’s a call to action.
And because of her, mothers and babies are safer today than they were yesterday.
