Placer Land Trust

Placer Land Trust Placer Land Trust protects natural and agricultural lands in Placer County – now and forever.

In addition to land preservation, we offer recreational opportunities including public preserves, trails, and docent-led hikes. We are also engaged in community outreach and events that benefit the community, such as clean ups, invasive species removal, and trail improvements for recreation. Visit our website to find more information on our hiking schedule, volunteer opportunities, and how you can get involved!

The nature paparazzi are here, and we are all about it! Yesterday was National Photography Day, a great chance for us to highlight some of the folks who get outside with us and share the world they see through their lenses. We have many talented people who share their work so generously...some of them include Jeannie Howell, Lance Spece, Dennis Cavallo, and Jaymee Marty. Thank you!!

We're always happy to see your photos after an outing with us and feature you when we can!

June is the blooming period for wavy-leafed soap plant, a humble cutie with lots of history whose blooms are pretty bonkers! They only open during vespertine time, meaning during evening or twilight. So every evening during this time of year, these flowers burst open between 6:00-7:00 PM!

Join us on the 16th at Canyon View Preserve in Auburn to see the bloom! No registration is required, just put on your walking shoes and find us on the trail. Learn more at the link in the comments.

Happy to Kidd & Cascade Lakes Preserve! This preserve contains portions of Kidd Lake and Cascade Lakes, surrounded by a higher-elevation mixed conifer forest that is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife. The property also provides beautiful views from the nearby public roadways and trails, and opportunities for cross country skiing, hiking, biking, and camping. It's a great place to get outside!

Happy National Donut Day! Donuts are a great tradition here at PLT, and are usually used as a metaphorical dangling carrot on days out in the field. To honor the day, we're throwing it back to our Volunteer Appreciation event several years ago where we used them as literal dangling donuts! It's harder than it looks to eat a donut off a string without your hands...props to our volunteers who really can do anything!

Thanks to Our Growing Team of Habitat Heroes! Read all about how a conversation with Southside Unlimited , a local nonprofit organization that supports adults with disabilities, turned into a thriving partnership and volunteer program that tackles invasive broom species at the Canyon View Preserve!

Gary Wells, our Land Manager for Canyon View, says, β€œthe impacts our volunteers are making are obvious and amazing. By removing so much French broom, we’re seeing native trees and shrubs that we didn’t know were there β€” giving them less competition and more room to grow. We are getting tons of compliments about how much better the preserve looks. We owe so much to our fantastic Habitat Heroes!”

This year's Land Affair was a wonderful evening in the perfect setting, the gorgeous Laursen Bear River Preserve. This is an extra-special event because we get to show our gratitude to four groups of super-supporters:

-Conservation Champions, who support Placer Land Trust’s mission with significant contributions;
-Forever Society members, who are leaving a lasting legacy;
-Land Benefactors, who make our mission possible by protecting their land; and
-Oak Circle members, who give deep-rooted support by donating each year for 10 or more years.

Thanks to each of these amazing supporters β€” it was a joy and an honor to share this beautiful evening with you! You can view the full photo album at the link in the comments.

This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we wanted to highlight the little gem that is Wakamatsu Tea & Silk Colony Farm!

PLT holds the easement on this River Conservancy property, which is the first permanent Japanese settlement in North America, established on June 8th, 1869! It has an incredible history along with its ecological value. This ranch is a beautiful mosaic of springs, streams, wetlands, blue and live oak forest, sweeping vistas and prime agricultural soil.
