Another great literacy project idea from our Kiwanis family!

The Kiwanis Club of Winter Garden–Horizon West developed a Reading Literacy Kits project to help children in underserved communities build reading skills and discover the joy of books.

Their goal? 100 kits filled with age-appropriate books, coloring activities, word finds, and literacy puzzles, all packaged in drawstring bags!

The club also contributed books and bags and planned to work with local schools and nonprofit partners to distribute the kits. What a creative way to make literacy fun and accessible! Could your club start something similar with a Florida Kiwanis Foundation Mini Grant?

Congratulations!

Our club was awarded a grant from The Florida Kiwanis Foundation, specifically through the David and Donna Batelaan Fund. The funds will be used by Lighthouse of SWFL to purchase portable desktop magnifiers to support children with visual impairments in educational, recreational, and daily living activities. In the photo L-R is club president Kim Gaide, agency CEO Amy Price, and member Kate Smiley who wrote and submitted the grant on behalf of our club.

Literacy comes in many forms, and we love seeing the creative ways our clubs support children!

The Kiwanis Club of Palatka continued its partnership with Toys for Tots through Operation Turn the Page Literacy Project.

The Club with funding from a mini grant purchased 300 STEM and sensory books for children with special needs, helping make reading and learning more accessible.

What a wonderful example of how community partnerships can expand the reach of a Kiwanis project!

Another great example of literacy in action with mini grant support!

The Kiwanis Club of Southeast Volusia partnered with a local middle school to help expand its media center collection. Through a Florida Kiwanis Foundation Mini Grant, the club purchased 99 books, providing additional reading resources for students.

Sometimes supporting literacy is as simple as asking a local school what it needs! Ask and then, please apply: https://floridakiwanisfoundation.org/

Bringing books and communities together!

With help from a $750 mini grant, the Kiwanis Club of East Pines Miramar (Division 24) is bringing two Little Free Libraries to its community!

With one library installed and another on the way, this project will help make books more accessible to children and families while encouraging literacy, sharing, and community connections.

Thank you to the Kiwanis Club of East Pines Miramar for investing in young readers!

Did you know that nearly 1 in 3 Mini Grants supported literacy projects last year? That's incredible!

We've received so many questions about these projects that we're sharing a few ideas this week!

First up, little libraries! These freestanding book-sharing libraries can be placed in parks, schools, community centers, and neighborhoods. You can even purchase ready-made structures online or on Amazon!

A busy day of service for the Fletcher Key Club! Following the Homecoming Parade and club meeting, members packed 60 hygiene kits for children at Sulzbacher Village.

Thank you to these outstanding student leaders for making a difference in their community!
