The Northeast Ohio Community Resilience Centre hosted a Reimagining Community Conversation last year in Ashtabula County at the YMCA. This Saturday, May 16 from 10am to noon at Ashtabula County District Library they are hosting the Report Back and would love for you to attend and share the information with your network. Community voice is brutally important to our efforts. This report back is focused on the adverse impact of Climate Change on communities of concern.

Freedom Fighters,
We are not waiting - we are ready! Since our last voting rights briefing, state legislatures across the country have continued moving aggressively to redraw maps, weaken Black political representation, and take advantage of the Supreme Court’s devastating decision in Louisiana v. Callais.
This moment requires urgency, coordination, and action from every NAACP unit, state conference, and ally.

NAACP Friends and Family,
Wednesday, May 13, 7pm-8:15pm - Join the NAACP Center for Health Equity and the NAACP Youth & College Division for a critical discussion on Youth Mental Health. The Wellness Blueprint is an engaging webinar designed for youth, educators, parents, community leaders, and advocates who serve on the front lines of support.
With young people experiencing unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional strain, this moment demands more than awareness — it calls for action.
This session provides a practical roadmap for shifting from crisis response to holistic prevention. Participants will gain accessible tools and strategies to strengthen youth mental wellbeing across schools, homes, and communities.

So glad to be a part of this great organization. Setting an example for my kids. Being a part of the change I want to see in the world. Starting in my own community!

That's our Ashtabula NAACP member and environmental chair Justin Thompson! From the Ashtabula Star Beacon: "An Ashtabula area resident is seeing success in advocacy, organizing and academia across the state and country.
"Justin Thompson was appointed the Ohio NAACP’s Environmental Climate Justice Chair in December 2025 after serving several years chairing a committee on the issue for the Ashtabula NAACP. He said he is grateful for the appointment, and it will allow him to better protect Ohio’s communities and ecosystems.
"The NAACP has a long history of standing up for those who lack the money, influence or power to advocate for themselves, Thompson said.
“ 'In Ohio, there are many inadequacies and inequalities that all too often go unspoken and/or unaddressed by those who have the political power to help those among us who lack the resources needed to improve people’s lives,' he said. 'This is particularly true in low-income communities and communities of color.'
"Thompson said he first began work with the Ashtabula NAACP in March 2019, through a meeting regarding fracking and the now-defunct Petmin pig iron plant announced for the Ashtabula Harbor."

We will show the documentary "Forgotten Hero - Walter White and the NAACP" TONIGHT (this Thurs Feb 26) at the Ashtabula library 6pm-7:45pm. Walter White was instrumental in investigating lynching and race rioting in the South. Because of his light skin he was able to pass as a white man, which allowed him to infiltrate dangerous situations and gather critical evidence for the prosecution of racially motivated violence in the South. PUBLIC INVITED! Bring family & friends. Refreshments will be served.
