The NEOCRC wants you to be alert and informed about the latest Parasite virus sweeping across the U.S. and Ohio. Please take this very seriously.

The American Medical Association (AMA) identifies cyclosporiasis as a nationally notifiable gastrointestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. The AMA emphasizes the following regarding the infection:

Symptoms
* Explosive Diarrhea: The hallmark symptom is frequent, sudden, and sometimes explosive watery diarrhea.
* Duration: The illness can last for days to weeks, or even months if left untreated, and may feature relapsing symptoms.
* Other Symptoms: Include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

Transmission & Prevention
* Source: It is typically spread by consuming fresh fruits and vegetables (such as lettuce, cilantro, basil, and raspberries) or water contaminated with f***s.
* Prevention: There is no vaccine. To reduce risk, thoroughly wash your hands and fresh produce, refrigerate cut produce within 2 hours, and cut away bruised areas.

Treatment & Reporting
* Treatment: The standard and most effective treatment is the antibiotic combination trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Healthy individuals may clear the parasite on their own, but prolonged symptoms or immunocompromised individuals often require medication.

The Northeast Ohio Community Resilience Centre hosted a Reimagining Community Conversation last year in Ashtabula County at the YMCA. This Saturday, May 16 from 10am to noon at Ashtabula County District Library they are hosting the Report Back and would love for you to attend and share the information with your network. Community voice is brutally important to our efforts. This report back is focused on the adverse impact of Climate Change on communities of concern.

Freedom Fighters,
We are not waiting - we are ready! Since our last voting rights briefing, state legislatures across the country have continued moving aggressively to redraw maps, weaken Black political representation, and take advantage of the Supreme Court’s devastating decision in Louisiana v. Callais.
This moment requires urgency, coordination, and action from every NAACP unit, state conference, and ally.

So glad to be a part of this great organization. Setting an example for my kids. Being a part of the change I want to see in the world. Starting in my own community!
