📚 As Literacy Month begins, what better way to celebrate than by highlighting the importance of putting books in the hands of our children!
We really enjoyed hearing from Todd Dulaney as he came to speak to the Asheboro Rotary Club about Randolph Reads, a wonderful community literacy initiative right here in Asheboro and Randolph County.
Randolph Reads was co-founded by Todd, who also serves as the Executive Editor of Our State Magazine. The initiative is focused on early childhood literacy, reading accessibility, and community involvement—because every child deserves the opportunity to develop a love for reading.
One of the programs that really stood out to me is their Book Accessibility Initiative. In partnership with the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber, Randolph Reads places baskets filled with children’s books in everyday places where families spend time—barber shops, auto repair shops, laundromats, waiting rooms, and other community locations.
Think about that for a moment: A child sitting in a barber chair or waiting for the family car to be serviced can pick up a book and start reading. 📖❤️
Sometimes making a difference doesn’t require a huge program or a major building. Sometimes it starts with simply putting the right book in the right child’s hands at the right time.
As we celebrate Literacy Month, let’s remember that reading isn’t just about learning words—it’s about opening doors, creating opportunities, building confidence, and giving our children the tools they need to succeed.
Let’s keep putting books in the hands of our children and investing in their future! 📚❤️
