Sweet Way to Start the Rotary Year

When I began my year as President of the Asheboro Rotary Club on July 1, I wanted to kick things off with a challenge that would be fun, memorable, and meaningful. A few weeks before my term officially began, I promised our members that if they raised at least $500 for District 7690's Sweet Dreams Initiative by July 14, I would attend my first official meeting as president dressed as a birthday cake. July 14 happens to be my birthday, making it the perfect opportunity to combine a little birthday fun with a great cause.

Our Asheboro Rotarians didn't just meet the challenge, they tripled it, contributing $1,600 by my birthday. So, I proudly kept my promise, arriving at our July 14 meeting dressed as a giant slice of birthday cake while the club celebrated my day and our achievement with a birthday party. The donations enable our club to participate in District 7690’s Sweet Dreams Initiative and we will receive the $400 District grant for the project, taking our funding total to $2,000. These monies will provide beds for approximately eight children right here in Randolph County who otherwise would be sleeping on floors or couches. As an educator, I know that a good night's sleep is essential to a child's ability to learn, grow, and thrive. My club’s enthusiastic response to my challenge is a joyful reminder that Rotary can accomplish extraordinary things when we combine generosity, creativity, and a willingness to have a little fun.

Sometimes, creating lasting impact begins with simply saying "yes" to a challenge—and occasionally, wearing a cake costume.

🎉 Celebrating Leadership and a New Rotary Year! 🎉

Our Rotary Club recently celebrated the induction of our 2026–2027 officers and board members while recognizing the outstanding leadership of our outgoing president, Kevin Franklin.

Kevin, thank you for a wonderful year of bringing our club together in fellowship and service. Your leadership inspired us to make a positive difference in our community, and we are grateful for all you have done.

We are excited to welcome our incoming president, Lisa Hayworth, as she leads us into a new Rotary year with the theme, “Increasing Our Impact, Expanding Our Reach.” We look forward to the opportunities ahead as we continue living Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self, and serving our community together. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who serves on our board and to all of our members who support our mission through their service and generosity. Your willingness to give your time, talents, and resources is what makes our club strong and allows us to continue making a meaningful impact in our community and beyond.
