Back-to-school season means new classrooms, new routines, and familiar faces, but for some children, it can also mean something much more important: an opportunity to be seen. 💙
Children experiencing abuse may return to school carrying signs that aren’t always easy to recognize. Changes in behavior, unexplained injuries, frequent absences, fearfulness, withdrawal, or changes in school performance can all be reasons to pay closer attention.
Teachers, school staff, coaches, and other trusted adults play an important role in noticing when something may be wrong. Paying attention and speaking up can be the first step toward getting a child the help they need.
As students head back to school, remember: a bookbag may not be the heaviest thing a child is carrying.
Know the signs. Be a safe adult. Speak up. 💙
