Asheboro Chess Club wants to welcome our newest member Jaden Wilson! Jaden joined the US Chess Federation, and played his first officially rated game on 9/30/2025.

Below are a few photos from the competition, part of the Quick Study 92. We play one round of G/25 d5 per week, making this a Dual Rated Event! It's a chance for those who dare to work on both their Quick and Regular USCF ratings. Recording of moves is recommended, but we are keeping it optional for this tournament series.

Since 1998, Asheboro Chess Club has provided a haven for players looking to improve their game, socialize, and have fun. We meet every Tuesday from 6pm until 9pm at Asheboro Public Library.

The Ricochet 208 was held Tuesday, 8/19/2025. We welcomed special guest Thomas Burwell to our regular cast of characters, along with a renewal membership from Jesse Osborne.

Thomas came to play, and scored a solid 4 out of 5 points to tie for 1st place with Aiden Vespa. This earned a bucket load of USCF rating points for him: 1362 ->1522, up 160 points!

Below are some photos from the event. Our next Ricochet is scheduled for 9/16/2025! Join us if you can. We also play USCF rated chess at every meeting, in our ongoing Quick Study tournament (Game 25 d5). Every Tuesday 6pm until 9pm at Asheboro Public Library.

There were two noteworthy performances at The Ricochet 207 on July 15th, 2025.

David Holmquist arrived late, but played 3 of the 5 rounds with a perfect score of 3.0. He gained 115 rating points to finish with a rating of 1565!

Matt Moss, who has been coming to our club on and off since 2017, had a breakthrough performance. For his next to last round, he was in a dead drawn position with a Knight vs. two connected pawns. Unfortunately, the draw evaporated for him under time pressure. However, he wasn't done. He won his final round convincingly vs. James Carelock, and gained nearly 100 rating points! Matt is still quite underrated, fair warning to his upcoming opponents. Congratulations, Matt!

There was no clear winner of the tournament with three tied for first place. It was a memorable and fun night of chess for all!
