🌊 Make waves for wildlife and help us provide the best care possible for our animals!

When you adopt one of our spectacular Brown Pelicans, your contribution goes directly toward animal enrichment. This means your support helps us fund fun, stimulating activities and environments that keep our animals happy, active, and thriving.

We have put together an incredible expanded adoption package to show our appreciation. If you're heading to the Zoo today - On Monday, August 17, 2026, The Africa ticket booths, Safari Gift restrooms, Billy D’s, and Africa Parking Lots will be CLOSED for maintenance and arbor work. Africa Gift Shops will remain OPEN for Guests.

Guests planning to visit the Zoo on Monday, August 17, should park and enter the Zoo through the North America Entrance and Parking Lots. The Parking Lot Shuttle will be closed.

Africa habitats and pathways will still be accessible. We anticipate Africa Entrance being open on Tuesday, August 18. Thank you for your understanding!

NC Zoo Society Members, you are invited to a members-only thank-you party: Wake Up With the Animals. The event takes place on Saturday, September 12, beginning at 8 a.m. at the North American entrance.

Attendees can enjoy a light breakfast of pastries, muffins, fruit, juice, milk, and coffee at Junction Plaza until 9 a.m. You may walk or take a tram, and you are welcome to stay and enjoy the park until the Zoo closes at 5 p.m. Members may also purchase Zoo admission tickets for non-member guests at a $2 discount.

To reserve your spot, please call Tina McDowell at 336.879.7270 or email [email protected]. Please provide the member's name and the number of members attending. You must show your membership card and a photo ID for entry.

A healthy Zoo starts with a clear picture. 🩺

Our animals can't tell us where it hurts. That's why our vets rely on portable ultrasound and endoscope machines to perform routine - and life-saving - exams. But our current equipment is nearly two decades old and struggling to keep up with our growing animal family.

We need your help to upgrade! New portable machines will give our team clearer images, which means earlier detection of cancers and diseases for the animals we love.

The Watani Grasslands are home to the striking fringe-eared oryx, a desert antelope with some incredible adaptations.

Did you know? To withstand extreme heat, an oryx can safely allow its body temperature to rise to 115°, helping it conserve water. 

During your visit, keep an eye out for the termite mound-shaped feeders throughout the habitat. These specially designed feeders allow the oryx to enjoy their grain while keeping their larger rhino neighbors from barging in.
