The Perfect Match: We don't believe in "one size fits all." We look at interests, career goals, and shared values to pair each youth with the one adult mentor who can best help them see the hope inside themselves.

Preparation with Purpose: From goal-setting assessments to "Life Plan" development, our team works tirelessly behind the scenes to build a roadmap tailored to every student’s unique journey.

Introducing the founders and Board of Directors of Undaunted Futures, who bring a breadth of experience spanning corporate strategy, the education industry, impact investing, product development, global policy, technology, and nonprofit experience to their leadership of our organization.

In terms of the education industry alone, the team combines more than 100 years of previous or current work with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, K12 Inc/Stride Learning, ACT, Laureate Education, Future of Learning, Education Affiliates, Docent Learning, Gersh Autism, Ellucian, and Edmentum - an incredible scope of knowledge to bring to our youth-centered mentoring program in Fairfax, VA.

What makes mentoring effective? It’s more than just a conversation—it’s a commitment to courage.

At Undaunted Futures, we don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Our youth-centered model is built to support underserved youth through learning experiences designed to build real-world skills and confidence.

Here is how we build a foundation for lifelong learning:

One-on-One Relationship: We only assign one mentor to each mentee. This allows for the development of a true, authentic relationship built on trust, consistency, and a shared journey.

Training + Support: Our mentors aren’t left to navigate the path alone. Through our specialized "Sherpa Program," mentors receive training in empathetic listening and unconscious bias, ensuring they have the tools to guide their mentees effectively.

Experiential Learning: We go beyond the classroom. By combining effective resources with cultural immersion and career exploration, we meet youth where they are and help them see the possibilities ahead.

The result? More than just goal achievement. We are cultivating confidence, resilience, and the servant leadership needed to become caring global citizens.

Today, we’re hearing from Jakki Mathis-Hull, Esq., about her experience mentoring with Undaunted Futures. For her, it’s about turning "humble beginnings" into a roadmap for others.

Why mentor?
"If my experiences—what worked, what didn’t, and the discipline it takes—can help a young person see their goals are achievable, then that’s incredibly rewarding."

The biggest surprise?
Mentorship isn't a one-way street. "Listening to a young person’s perspective often challenges me to think differently and reflect on my own experiences."

At Undaunted Futures, we believe every young person possesses a courageously resolute spirit—but for many underserved youth, systemic barriers and a lack of support can make the path forward feel anything but clear.

The Challenge
Research from the CDC highlights a steep decline in teen mental health, specifically noting that youth in underserved communities often lack the "connectedness" to home and school that fosters resilience. Furthermore, the "mentoring gap" is real: 1 in 3 young people are growing up without a stable adult mentor to guide them. Without this bridge, talent is often sidelined by a lack of access and economic mobility.

The Solution: 1-on-1 Mentorship
Our mission is to shift these outcomes through deeply personal, 1-on-1 relationships. When a young person has a mentor, they don't just find a teacher—they find the hope inside themselves. Mentors are supported by our Sherpa Training Program, where they learn best practices and problem solve together.

The Impact
The numbers speak for themselves: Youth with a mentor are 55% more likely to enroll in college and 130% more likely to hold leadership positions (Mentoring.org). By focusing on individual goal-setting and experiential learning, we empower students to transform "adrift" into "undaunted."
