Gene M. Woodard, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund Inc

Gene M. Woodard, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund Inc A 501c3 public charity whose mission is to reward talented fine arts students in the Fort Worth (TX) Independent School District with college scholarships.

Gene M. Woodard, Jr. was a drummer, pianist, and guitarist who lived in east Fort Worth. A 1966 graduate of Eastern Hills High School, he was lead drummer with the Highlander band and played for President Kennedy on the morning of November 22, 1963. Often seen performing at the White Elephant Saloon and other local music venues, Gene was well known in the 1980s Fort Worth blues/rock/country music

scene. Gene was lost to a homicide in 1986, but his sons have decided to establish his legacy in the form of a scholarship foundation that will provide educational opportunities for young musicians growing up in the same neighborhoods where he lived and lost his life. For every East Fort Worth youth we can encourage to pick up a musical instrument instead of a gun, we can make our community a more positive place.
