🎶 What a special experience for our six Connexions! 🎶

Our Connexion participants had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful performance at Connexion 1 of Mozart’s The Magic Flute presented by Opera Arlington. From the music and singing to the colorful, imaginative production, everyone had a fantastic time experiencing live opera together!

We are grateful to organizations like Opera Arlington for bringing the arts to our community and creating opportunities for everyone to enjoy and experience live performances. ❤️

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make our Family Night FUNdraiser and North Texas Giving Day such a success! Your generosity helps Advocates for Special People provide opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build friendships, enjoy recreation, learn new skills, and be active members of their communities.

Ever wonder what a typical week looks like at Advocates for Special People Connexions? There really isn’t a “typical” week! 💙

Our SIX Special Connexions follow a different schedule each week, designed to give our participants opportunities to learn, create, explore, build friendships, and be an active part of their community.

Just look at one recent week! 👇

🎬 A movie at the theater
🎤 Karaoke and music
🎨 Creative projects and crafts
🍪 Celebrating National Sugar Cookie Day
🎳 Fun activities with friends
🎮 Nintendo Switch Sports
âš˝ A visit to a local park
🏙️ Exploring places throughout our community

Most weeks include 3–4 field trips, giving our participants the chance to get out of the building and experience the community around them.

But the outings are about more than just having fun. They provide opportunities to practice real-life skills—ordering food, handling money, making choices, following schedules, interacting with others, navigating public spaces, and building confidence and independence.

And just as important? Friendships. ❤️

Our participants have the opportunity to spend their days with friends, discover new interests, try new things, and create memories together.

At ASP, we believe adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve opportunities to learn, grow, contribute, have fun, and belong. That's what Special Connexions is all about. đź’™

Our friends at Connexion 5 recently had the opportunity to work with local artist Jeanette Batten and try their hand at pour painting! 🖌️

With colorful paints, a little creativity, and a whole lot of fun, our participants created their own unique pieces of artwork. No two paintings are alike—and that’s what makes them so special! 💙

A huge THANK YOU to Jeanette, also Nana to one of our Connexion 5 friends, for sharing her time, talent, and love of art with our participants. We had so much fun creating alongside her!

And you’ll have another chance to see Jeanette’s beautiful work at our 8th Annual Family Night FUNdraiser on September 17! 🎉 She has generously donated artwork to our Silent Auction, where you can bid on one of her original pieces!
