Family history tells the country’s story, and organizations have an opportunity to invite everyone to explore their past and their connection to the nation’s history. NGS is excited to support your efforts to open the doors, virtually or in person, and share all that you offer.

A FREE toolkit is available that points to practical, easy ways to increase outreach, engage a wide range of people, and work with partners to grow the genealogy and family history community. Download the PDF at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/america250/

Join us on Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for a special event honoring the Arlington Heritage Memorial Grounds, located at 600 W. Arkansas Lane. This is a rare opportunity to explore the historic cemetery, which is typically closed to the public. Enjoy a guided tour or explore the grounds at your own pace.

A joint effort between the Arlington Historical Society, the City of Arlington, and Tarrant County, an extensive restoration project transformed a neglected site dating back to the 1850s into a well-preserved landmark.

Following years of research and fundraising, the restoration (completed in 2023) introduced new fencing, lighting, landscaping, parking, and a Donor Walk of Honor. Notably, visitors can now scan QR codes throughout the grounds to learn the stories of those buried here.

The most meaningful work, however, happened behind the scenes. Through extensive research, the number of identified graves grew from 77 to 109. While much has been achieved, the mission continues in locating additional unmarked graves and ensuring their legacies are never forgotten.
