As first responders battle wildfires in the Texas Panhandle, The Salvation Army Pampa Service Unit is providing ongoing support. The team of volunteers, led by Shelby Rivera, served 100 meals, 126 snacks, and gave 200 packets of DripDrop to firefighters and first responders working to control a fire in Gray County on Monday.

Nearly 50 Salvation Army locations are open as overnight inclement weather shelters and daytime warming centers, with increased capacity to welcome anyone seeking refuge from the severe winter weather. Did you know The Salvaiton Army's first disaster response was after the devastating hurricane that struck Galveston in September 1900? The hurricane destroyed the coastal city and killed thousands of people. At the request of The Salvation Army's National Commander, Frederick Booth-Tucker, officers from across the country moved into the Galveston area to help feed and shelter survivors and provide much-needed emotional and spiritual support. That was the start of 125 years of dedicated service to those impacted by disaster
