Nearly ten years ago, The Sandlot started with a simple idea: create more opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Since then, supporters, volunteers, partners, and donors have helped transform that idea into almost a decade of impact.

To this day, we remain grateful for everyone who helped write the first chapter of this story and cannot wait to see what the next chapter holds.

Most people see equipment. We see possibility. A sports wheelchair. An adaptive bike. A modified piece of equipment designed for a specific need.

To some, they're just tools.

To the athlete using them, they can mean a first goal, a new friendship, a boost in confidence, or a chance to join the game.

Inclusion doesn't start with a diagnosis. It starts with access.

That's why The Sandlot continues to invest in opportunities where children and adults of all abilities can play, compete, and connect through sports and recreation.

What started as a single event has grown into a movement that has helped expand access to sports and recreation for individuals of all abilities across North Texas. Now, it's time to celebrate 10 incredible years.

The Sandbox will take donors, volunteers, advocates, partners, coaches, families, athletes, and community leaders working together to create something North Texas has never seen before.

You don't need a sports background to make an impact. You don't need personal ties to disability to join this movement. You just need the belief that every person deserves access, opportunity, and belonging.

Inclusion is not a separate program tucked into the corner.

Inclusion looks like teammates cheering for each other. It looks like adaptive equipment sitting beside standard equipment. It looks like families who no longer have to ask, “Can my child participate?” It looks like accessible spaces designed for everyone from the very beginning.

At The Sandlot, we’re working toward a future where inclusive sports and recreation stop feeling rare in North Texas.

The Sandbox will create opportunities for connection, confidence, movement, and belonging for individuals of all abilities. This work takes all of us. Tag someone who believes sports should include everyone.
