Mya Ann Carter of Bay Springs, Mississippi passed away a day after her 24th birthday, on December 16, 2022.

Authorities say a domestic dispute turned deadly ending in what is believed to be a murder-suicide. Mya passed away at the scene outside a residence and Jermaine Woulard, 33, was found deceased inside a bedroom of the home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputies were responding to a 911 call to a report of screams and gunshots at the residence at approximately 6:30 p.m., Sheriff Randy Johnson said.

May’s loved ones and friends described her as a light, always smiling and happy. Her passing has greatly affected all those who loved her. Please keep her parents, her brother and sister and other friends and family in your prayers as they grieve her loss. Rest peacefully.

The number one question I’m asked regarding healing is how I get past the hurt, and honestly, there’s no magical solution! It was simply WHAT I DID WITH THE HURT. Did I want to live an active, healthy, loving life, or would I allow the past to eat away at me and leave my children without a father and mother? The choice was mine. As I held on to the hurt, I relived every second, smell, and emotion daily. I was stuck in pain. The first thing I had to hold myself accountable for was MY MISTAKES. There was a small part of the hurt that I was responsible for. The pain I inflicted in a failed relationship also caused things to snowball into a BIGGER situation. 💜I had to accept an apology that I would never receive. 💜I Decided to LET GO and LET GOD have His way fully. This in itself was empowering to me. I was assigned to heal both men and women who experience domestic violence. It was time to stop being selfish and consumed with my hurt and help others heal past theirs. This was bigger than he and I. Ok, God; I’m doing it YOUR way. 💜Express my pain. This is where journaling changed my life. I had to get it out! Every moment made me smile, every moment made me laugh, every moment made me cry, and every moment made me sick to my stomach. In journaling, I found that my pain had become my identity, and that’s not the woman God intended for me to be. I found me. 💜Lastly, I had to stop being a victim and focus on the right now. Being the victim was my safety net because It allowed me to hold onto “something.” Again, I was in pain and afraid to open my heart fully to another man. Guess what??? It happened. I am capable of loving and being loved.
Don’t get me wrong; I’ll still have those moments when the thoughts of my past make their way into my consciousness. I just take the time to acknowledge them, process the feelings, and return to my right now.
Do something different today LET GO OF THE PAIN and welcome happiness back into your life.
