This was an organization created with the purpose of band service, but was created for men. The women of the band decided they should form their version of a women's sorority called REBSA (Rebel Band Service Auxiliary) which took on the same ideas and purposes as REBSO. When REBSO became Kappa Kappa Psi, REBSA took on the name REBSO. Then on October 13, 1964, approximately seven months after Kappa
Kappa Psi was established at Arlington State College (became UTA in 1967), the REBSO president (Suzanne Witter) wrote to National Headquarters for information on peititioning a chapter. REBSO quickly compiled all of the information needed and sent it to National Headquarters on March 16, 1965. The Gamma Nu chapter of Tau Beta Sigma was installed on March 28, 1965 by the Beta Delta chapter located at Texas Christian University. In Memoriam, composed by David Maslanka, was commissioned at the request of the students of the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma chapters at UTA. It is in memory of Kappa Kappa Psi honorary Susan Eck Lichtenwalter, wife of Ray C. Lichtenwalter and former Director of Bands at UTA. It was originally performed on February 4, 1990, at the Annual Tour Concert in Irons Recital Hall. On February 8, 1990 at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio, the UTA Wind Ensemble gave the World Premier Performance of In Memoriam before a packed house.
