NOTICE SHOW DATE CHANGE 2025

To All Members of the Wire Fox Terrier Club of the Central States
We have had some difficulty with our venue for our show in 2025. Due to no fault of any Committee Member or any person on the Board, our usual weekend for our show was not available to us.
As a result of a lot of hard work, the show committee has been able to secure the Roberts Center for Friday May 16 and Saturday May 17, 2025, for our show. Move in and some events will be on the Thursday as they usually are.
We are fortunate that our Judges will remain the same. Further details will be announced as they are available.
Regards
Bill Ashburn, President WFTCCS

important news for those travelling across the border with your dogs.

July 23, 2024https://www.akc.org/legislative-alerts/cdc-revises-requirements-importing-dogs-older-6-months-low-risk-countries/Yesterday (July 22, 2024), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provided an update to related to new CDC requirements effective August 1 for importing or traveling into the United States with a dog older than 6 months of age.

The revisions to the rule no longer require an additional rabies vaccination form certified by a USDA-accredited veterinarian or an official government veterinarian in the exporting country. Instead, for dogs entering the U.S. from low-risk or dog-maintained rabies virus variant (DMRVV)-free countries like Canada, the revised rule simplifies entry by requiring one form—the CDC Dog Import Form—that does not have to be endorsed by a veterinarian. This form requires the dog’s microchip number, a picture, and an attestation that the dog has not been in a high-risk country in the past six months.

Additionally, instead of making travelers update this form for every entry, it will now be valid for six months. However, CDC will continue to require all dogs entering the U.S. to be at least six-months old and be microchipped.
As stated in the update: “To provide greater flexibility to the requirements for dogs coming from dog rabies-free or low-risk countries, when the rule goes into effect on August 1, 2024…, dogs that have spent the prior six months only in dog rabies-free or low-risk rabies countries will be able to enter the United States with a CDC Import Form online submission receipt as acceptable documentation. This form can be filled out the day of travel and the receipt can be shown to airlines and border officials as a printed copy or by phone. The receipt will be good for travel into the U.S. for six months from the date of issuance, including multiple entries. All dogs entering the United States must have a microchip and be over six months of age.”The online CDC Dog Import Form, and other information regarding bringing dogs into the United States from low-risk countries may be found on the CDC website. AKC continues to be concerned with the disproportionate impacts the new rule will have on low-risk importations for dogs between 4 and 6 months of age. We urge you to send respectful comments to CDC and your members of Congress regarding this issue. Read AKC’s previous alert for talking points and more information on how to contact them regarding this issue.

For questions and concerns regarding the new CDC rule, contact CDC directly:(404) 498-1600 or [email protected]. AKC Government Relations will continue to provide updates and information as it becomes available.

Dear members of the Wire Fox Terrier Club of the Central States,
On June 30th we lost a dear friend and member of our club, Karen Passow.
Karen and her friend Gloria Thomas were known by the Pathwire kennel. They produced many champion wire fox terriers in conformation, barn hunt, obedience, scent work, and numerous other performance endeavors.
Karen was awarded the Frank R. Booth award in 2019 for her distinguished service.
We would like to put forth a collection to be applied to Performance Activities at our central states club.
Money can be sent to our treasurer, Linda Albrecht. Please earmark it in honor of Karen. or [email protected]

Elise Singer and myself could not think of a better way to honor Karen for her past hard work in our club.
Sincerely, Lori Yotter

Westminster Flashback: “She Was Beautiful”

John Marvin’s Terrier Group winner is Wire Fox Terrier Ch. Zeloy Mooremaide’s Magic, handled by jaunty Jimmy Butler for owner Marion G. Bunker.

From John Rendel’s show coverage in the February 17, 1966, New York Times: The echoes of praise that developed from the Westminster best-in-show victory achieved by the English-bred wire fox terrier, Ch. Zelroy Mooremaide’s Magic, in Madison Square Garden Tuesday night included a tribute to Jimmy Butler, the Yorkshireman who was her professional handler.

It was made yesterday by John Marvin of Xenia, Ohio, at the Dog Fanciers Club Luncheon Club meeting in Luchow’s Restaurant. He was the judge of the terrier group from which the dog qualified for the final she won. “I think the terriers include the most difficult dogs to bring into top condition,” Marvin said. “The fox terrier was put down in immaculate condition. It takes months to get a coat into that kind of bloom.

“In any wire-haired breed, in which you have to trim areas of the coat with different lengths of hair, it is hard to bring all portions to prime condition simultaneously. There often are bare patches where you can see the skin.

“That was not true of Biddy (the winning dog’s call name). She was beautiful.”
