I want to share a “need to watch” story on the news tonight at 10PM.

While many of us have experienced domestic violence in many ways, we all have one thing in common-we love each other more than I can explain.

I call Billie Day Gonzales a friend who has lived a mother’s nightmare-losing her child to abuse.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is about more than wearing purple. It’s about listening, learning, speaking up, offering help, and making sure survivors know they are not alone.
On October 13, community members, advocates, law enforcement, survivors, and local organizations will come together in Grand Prairie for the “Raise Your Voice! Alza Tu Voz!” Stop Domestic Violence Conference. Hagar’s Heart is proud to support conversations like these that bring domestic violence into the light and connect our North Texas community with education and resources.

Attendees will hear from panelists and participate in conversations covering survivor experiences, legal issues, law enforcement, available resources, and ways each of us can better support victims of domestic violence.

What happens when a company comes together to support survivors? The impact can be felt across North Texas.

Higginbotham Fort Worth employees from multiple locations recently came together for their Give Back Day to pack an incredible 800 I See You Boxes for Hagar’s Heart.
But the impact of a day like this goes far beyond 800 boxes. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men in the U.S. have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

That means domestic violence is already affecting people in our workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, churches, and communities; including people who may not have made the decision to seek help yet. When employees come together to pack I See You Boxes, they aren't only preparing resources for survivors. They're helping bring domestic violence out of the shadows. They're starting conversations. They're reminding coworkers that support exists. And they're helping create a community where survivors know they don't have to walk through this alone.

That is especially meaningful during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Awareness can be one of the first steps toward recognizing abuse, supporting someone we love, or knowing where to turn when help is needed. Thank you, Higginbotham Fort Worth, for turning your Give Back Day into action that will reach survivors throughout North Texas. 💜
