Many people believe that once a survivor leaves an abusive relationship, the hardest part is over.

The reality is that leaving is often just the beginning of a long journey toward safety, stability, and healing.

Domestic violence can affect every aspect of a person's life, and survivors often face challenges that are not visible to others.

Today we're sharing 5 important facts about domestic violence survivors that can help us become a more informed and compassionate community.

At Hagar's Heart, we believe every woman deserves to be seen, known, and loved. Through our We See You box program and community partnerships, we work to support survivors on their healing journey.

Meet the Founder Behind Hagar's Heart 💜

Jennifer Jones has carried many titles throughout her life—wife, mom, daughter, sister, educator, advocate, and survivor.

For more than 25 years, she dedicated her life to helping others find their voice. But after walking through her own journey of domestic violence, Jennifer discovered a new purpose: helping survivors recognize their worth and begin the healing process.

In May 2020, Hagar's Heart was founded with one simple but powerful message:

You are seen. You are worthy. You are loved.

What began during a pandemic has grown into a nonprofit serving survivors across Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin counties through monthly "I See You" Boxes and healing-centered community events.

Since our founding, Hagar's Heart has:

• Delivered more than 9,000 I See You Boxes and handwritten letters to survivors
• Hosted over 50 events focused on healing and emotional well-being
• Partnered with 10 domestic violence organizations across 3 counties

Every I See You Box includes 16 self-care and encouragement items, along with a handwritten letter reminding survivors that they are not forgotten and that their story matters.

Jennifer's vision remains the same today as it was in 2020: to help others understand that domestic violence is more than a black eye and that every person deserves dignity, respect, emotional safety, and hope.

Thank you for helping us ensure that survivors know they are seen, known, and loved.

💜 If Hagar's Heart has impacted your life, we'd love to hear your story in the comments.

💜 Welcome to Hagar's Heart 💜

Many people discover our organization through a friend, a volunteer opportunity, or one of our I See You Boxes and wonder:

"Who is Hagar's Heart?"

Hagar's Heart is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and empowering survivors of domestic violence and the professionals who serve them.

Our name comes from the biblical story of Hagar, who experienced hardship, isolation, and uncertainty. In her darkest moment, she encountered God and called Him "the God who sees me."

That truth inspires everything we do.

Through survivor-centered programs, self-care resources, community partnerships, and volunteer initiatives, we work to ensure survivors know they are not forgotten and do not have to walk their healing journey alone.

Today, our work reaches survivors through partnerships with shelters, community organizations, and advocates who share our belief that everyone deserves dignity, hope, and support.

Last week our staff and clients were honored to be served lunch by one of our partners, Hagar's Heart. This was a beautiful and meaningful lunch. The goal was to help heal the healers and fuel the work we do to serve women and children around Mother's Day weekend.

Each participant left with a bouquet of flowers, a full belly, and a goody bag filled with makeup from a community partner that knows how to show up and recognize those needing an extra bit of love during Mother's Day.

Thank you to our friends at Hagar's Heart. We value this partnership as we journey to end intimate partner abuse and violence.
