Hi all,
The big news yesterday was just the beginning! The Village of Margaretville won a $4.5 million NY Forward grant from New York State for downtown revitalization!
This was a highly competitive grant and will create new opportunities for the Margaretville Main Street and Downtown. We are deeply grateful to everyone involved in the application process, especially all those who volunteered and participated in putting forward the winning application.
Three Key Things to Know About the $4.5M NY Forward Grant:
1. The grant will fund major downtown revitalization initiatives, not general operating support of existing organizations or the municipality.
Our application identified several key projects we hope to fund, including reimagining the Galli Curci Theater, revitalizing the burned out building block, a small project and facade enhancement fund, and various beautification efforts (downtown murals, wayfinding signage, and cohesive branding)
2. No projects contained within the application are guaranteed to be funded.
While our application outlined these projects, nothing is final yet. A new committee and the state will review and vet all projects, meaning some allocations may change, some projects may be dropped, and new ones may be added. Think of this grant as a "line of credit" for downtown revitalization each project still needs approval.
3. We are just at the beginning of a long process.
This is a transparent and public process involving:
◦ The formation of a local planning committee
◦ Engagement with the Department of State
◦ Public input to refine and improve revitalization plans
This process will take at least a year before final allocations are determined. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to be involved and have your voice heard! The submitted application and all announcements will be posted at https://margaretvillenyforward.com/.
