On Sunday May 31st at 12:24am we were dispatched along with City of Hornell Fire Department Ambulance to the 7000 block of State Route 36 in the Village of Arkport for the patient with a hand stuck in the door of a car. Chief 2 and Rescue 38 responded. The victim was freed without injury.

On Sunday 5/31/26 at 4:57pm we were dispatched mutual aid to Canaseraga Fire Company along with North Hornell Volunteer Fire Department for the reported Structure fire. Started as a control burn, now out of control and into a barn threatening a house. Tanker 9, Engine 69, Rescue 38, and Chief 2 responded. The house was saved and the barn was a total loss. On Friday 6/6/26 at 7:48pm we were dispatched along with NYS Police for the nuisance fire in the Village. Caller reporting ash on her property. Brush 16 and Chief 202 responded. Scene was turned over to NYS Police.

On Saturday 6/7/26 at 10:49pm we were dispatched Mutual Aid to Canaseraga Fire Company to shut down State Route 70 at 961F while they worked a motorcycle crash on State Route 70 in the Town of Burns. Rescue 38 and Chief 202 responded and remained on scene into the early hours of Sunday Morning. (Last two Photos)

Don graduated from Canisteo Central School in 1953 and dedicated his life to serving his family, ...

Canisteo firefighter and past Director of Steuben County Emergency Services Don Merring passed away yesterday. Don was Chief of the Canisteo Fire Department from 1970 to 1977 and Director of Steuben Emergency Services from 1985 to 1995. After his retirement he worked as a dispatcher for the Steuben Sherrif's office and also for the Bath Village Police Department. Don was inducted into the Steuben County Hall of Fame on September 27, 2021.
He was known by many and a true role model for the fire service and anyone who knew him. We send our condolences to the Canisteo Fire Department and Don's family. Rest in peace Don, we will take it from here.

On Sunday 5/24/26 at 8:09am we were dispatched along with Hornell City Ambulance to the 7000 block of the Airport Road in the Town of Hornellsville for the patient who was possibly having a stroke. Upon arriving on location, all symptoms had stopped. Paient was checked over by the ambulance crew and signed off to not go to the hospital but check in with their doctor. Medic 2 and Chief 2 responded to the call.

On Sunday 5/24/26 at 7:26pm we were dispatched for the commercial fire alarm in the 7000 block of Seneca Road North in the Town of Hornellsville. Engine 69 and Chief 2 responded and nothing was found inside the building.

On Saturday 5/30/26 at 2:47am we were dispatched along with Hornell City ambulance to Peach Street in the Village of Arkport for the patient who had had a cough and trouble breathing for 2 days. Medic 2 and Chief 2 responded.

5/17/26-5/23/26

On Monday, 5/18/26 at 4:26pm we were dispatched mutual aid to North Hornell Volunteer Fire Department for the possible structure fire, in the 400 block of McKinley Ave in the Village of North Hornell. Fire was contained and our units were held in quarters.

On Tuesday, 5/19/26 at 8:25am we were dispatched to the 7000 block of State Route 36 in the Village for the fire alarm activation. Chief 2 went on location with nothing showing. Investigation revealed maintenance was on location and had an alarm fall off the wall while they were working to install a new door. Engine 69 also responded to the call.

On Tuesday, 5/19/26 at 12:24pm we were dispatched mutual aid to Almond, New York Fire & Rescue for the one car MVC on County Route 32 in the Town of Almond, reported one person with injuries. Chief 2, Chief 202, LT 272 and Rescue 38 responded and provided assistance with extraction and patient stabilization. NYS Police were on scene investigating and MTS ambulance transported the patient. (First 3 pictures below).

On Friday, 5/22/26 at 5:49pm we were dispatched to the 8000 block of State Route 36 for the two car MVC with blocking. Chief 2, Engine 69, and Rescue 38 responded and provided traffic control. NYS Police were on scene and Dansville Ambulance signed off the passengers. (Pictures 4-6).

On Saturday, 5/23/26 at 2:56pm we were dispatched along with Hornell Firefighters Association - IAFF Local 835 to I86 for the two car MVC, unknown injuries, unknown entrapment. While in route call was updated with injuries and blocking. Chief 2 arrived on location and provided and updated location. Engine 69 setup blocking and started on extraction work as one patient was trapped. Rescue 38 arrived on location and set up traffic control and provided the power source to Engine 69s combination tool. Air transport was unavailable due to weather and Hornell City Ambulance transported one patient. Fremont Ambulance was later asked for to check over another patient as Hornell City was working two other ambulance calls in the City. NYS Police were on location providing the investigation.
