Women's Retreat | Register by October 23!

Join us for a weekend of rest, reflection, and community at Pilgrim Pines! This year's retreat, Learning to Walk in the Dark, is inspired by Barbara Brown Taylor's book of the same name. Together, we'll explore what it means to become more comfortable with uncertainty, mystery, and the things we cannot fully know or understand. What might we discover when we don't rush toward easy answers?

The weekend will include opportunities for spiritual practices, creativity, time in nature, meaningful conversation, and simply being together. Women and gender-expansive folks who feel at home in a women-centered space are warmly invited to join us for the full weekend or Saturday only.

Register by October 23 at firstchurchlb.org/retreat. Register now, pay later options are available.

Sponsored Clergy Webinar: When Leaders Grieve

With a major election less than a month away, clergy and local church leaders may be feeling anxious about what the results will mean for our communities, our congregations, and our own families. The SCNC is sponsoring free participation in a post-election session on "What Happens When Leaders Grieve?" Rev. Kinsie Tate is ordained with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with more than 15 years of experience in mental health settings, and a private practice in Newport Beach, CA. She will host Rev. Dr. Rae Karim of Good Grief Now! in a joint session on the ways grief affects a leader's faith (including moments of doubt or absence of faith), the impact on both congregational and personal ministry, effects on family life, and practical ways to navigate grief.

Get to know Rev. Kate and keep an eye out for future sponsored opportunities to participate in a contemplative Epiphany webinar, as well as a five-week series on Leading From Abundance starting in the new year. To sign up: authorized ministers can email or call Virginia Arroyo at the Conference office for a code to register for free; lay leaders in churches who do not currently have pastoral leadership may also be eligible to attend by contacting Rachael Pryor. These programs qualify for continuing education credit hours for clergy.
