If you have been telling yourself you would learn to sail someday, someday is next weekend.

Our Adult Intro to Sailing course takes complete beginners and puts them on the water in a single weekend. Two days, small groups, US Sailing certified instructors, and plenty of time at the tiller. You learn to rig and launch, read the wind, steer, tack and jibe, handle a capsize, and cover the safety and right of way basics that make you a competent sailor. All aboard our Fulcrum Rockets, which are stable, forgiving, and genuinely fun to sail.

One session left this summer: August 1 and 2, Saturday and Sunday, 9 to 4. Cost is $300 for the full weekend. Spots are limited and kept small on purpose.

We have a national winner. Spirit of America Foundation's National Take Our Youth Boating Week contest went to this video of Millie, who graduated from our Spirit of America program a couple of years ago, teaching her younger brother's friend to sail. Millie has stayed close to the program ever since, volunteering with SOA last year and with sail camp all summer this year. This is the whole idea, kids who learn here, coming back to give it to the next ones. Congratulations to all three, and thank you Spirit of America Foundation.

A thank you to the Community Foundation for the CSRA for their Grant Seeker Sessions.

Sessions like these make a real difference for small nonprofits like ours, helping us plan well and serve our community better. We're grateful for an organization so invested in strengthening the CSRA's nonprofit community.

Sail camp 2026 wrapped last week, and we're looking back at everything these kids packed into it. Learning to rig and sail their own boats. Practicing real skills, right down to capsize recovery. Swimming, hiking, and exploring the lake. Sailing the fleet to Red Cliff & Monkey Island. And big boat Friday, because every sailor should feel a real keelboat under them at least once.

Thank you to camp lead Jaclyn Braun, our beach boss, for running an incredible summer, to our many instructors, our ACS high school sailors and juniors who taught alongside them, our volunteers and to every family who trusted us with their campers.

This week we will be hosting Spirit of America. So stay tuned.

Calling middle and high school students. Spend a week on the water this July.

Our Spirit of America Youth Boating Education Course runs July 14 to 17 on Clarks Hill Lake, offered by Augusta Community Sailing in partnership with the Augusta Sailing Club and the Spirit of America Foundation.

It is four days of hands-on, learn by doing boating education built around safety, real skills, teamwork, and confidence on the water. Students also earn their Georgia State Safe Boating Certificate, finishing the week with a real credential they will carry with them.

Sail, paddle, and power, all in one week. It is a great introduction for students who are curious about boating.

We have a few spots left, and registration is open through the weekend.

Day two of sailing. Ever.

For many of this week's campers, yesterday was their first time on a sailboat. Today they rigged their own Sunfish, launched from the beach at Augusta Sailing Club, and sailed the fleet across open water to Red Cliff. Some solo, some doubled up with a buddy.

Leading the week: instructor Kim Bagnoni assisted by Joe McMullen, with our ACS high school sailors, including two newly certified instructors, assisting on the beach, with rigging, and from the safety boats. Kids who came up through this program, now helping teach the next group alongside the coaches who taught them. That is the whole idea.

Lunch and a swim at the cliff, then they sail home.
Not bad for day two.

Augusta Community Sailing's Adult Intro to Sailing takes you from shore to confident on the water in a single weekend. No experience needed. Two full days, Saturday and Sunday, 9 to 4, taught by US Sailing certified instructors in a small group with plenty of personal attention.

You will learn to rig and launch, read the wind, steer, tack and jibe, handle a capsize, and cover the safety and right of way basics that make you a competent sailor. All aboard the Fulcrum Rocket, a modern 14 foot dinghy that is stable, forgiving, and genuinely fun to sail.

July 11 to 12
July 18 to 19
July 25 to 26
August 1 to 2

Last night the ACS Youth Advisory Board hosted this week’s Fun Sail, inviting friends who’d never sailed before to come out, catch some wind, and see what it’s all about. Watching our juniors teach, lead, and safely share the water with new sailors is exactly what this organization is for.

Huge thanks to our YAB members for planning and running a fantastic evening. This is what the next generation of sailing leadership looks like.
