When Tostino arrived at AVAS, he was friendly, social, and available for adoption. Yet according to shelter status checks, he was later placed in the barn β€” an area often used for cats labeled as feral or difficult to handle.

But watch his video.

Does this look like a feral cat? Does this look like a cat who belongs hidden away from adopters and rescuers?

Tostino’s story raises an important question: How many friendly cats are being routed to the barn instead of being given a real chance at adoption, rescue, or foster placement?

The concern has never been about having a barn program for truly unsocialized cats. The concern is whether friendly, adoptable cats are being placed there as well β€” where they become far less visible to the public and rescue community.

Every cat deserves an honest assessment and a fair opportunity to be seen.

Yesterday, Asher and Dot were rescued by Ark 2.0 Animal Rescue and Transport! 🎊

πŸ’› Foster Update:
β€œThey are so funny and playful. They immediately felt at home.”

Some lives take extra effort to save. Rescue and fostering aren’t always easy, and there can be many hurdles along the way. But seeing Asher and Dot safe, loved, and already settling into their new environment reminds us why every effort is worth it.

A huge thank you to Ark 2.0 Animal Rescue and Transport, their foster, and everyone who shared, networked, pledged, and advocated for these two cats. It truly takes a village. ❀️
