Welcome our newest coach to AVJO - Coach Aliyah! Aliyah will be a welcome addition to our growing boys' program, heading up one of our older teams!
Name: Aliyah Daley
Playing Experience: I played volleyball competitively for seven years (playing all year round while I was in high school) and I have played recreationally now for three years!
Coaching Experience: I have three years of coaching experience - I was an assistant coach for my first year, a co-coach for my second year, and head coach my third year! I will say that I tend to take a bit of a tougher coaching style - I have such a passion for volleyball, both in playing and watching the game. I want the best for my players but I also am not afraid to push if I know my players are capable of more (hence the rougher coaching style).
Hobbies: Outside of volleyball (which is one of my main hobbies), I work two jobs but when I do have down time I like to spend time with my dog Layla (we go on lots of walks, hikes, and runs), read books, hit the gym, catch up on the tv series I am currently binge watching, once hockey season starts I will be deep in hockey, and I enjoy catching up with friends when I have the chance! (If it wasn’t apparent from the previous list, I don’t really like to sit still😂).
What she loves most about coaching: Seeing the passion in my players and helping them bring their passion, their skills, and more importantly their confidence to the surface. I was a very timid player when I played in high school, it took one coach (that had a bit of a rougher coaching style) to bring me out of my shell and help me gain confidence in myself. While I do believe that there needs to be an understanding and comprehension of the basics in volleyball before moving onto higher level skills and plays, I also believe the game is greatly impacted by mentality. I hope to be able to teach my players the importance of the skills and how to execute them properly but also the importance of mentality and the impact that has on the game!
