🦁 WE’VE BEEN AROUND. WE’VE BEEN BUSY. AND WE’RE NOT DONE YET. 🦁
People sometimes look at the Antelope Lions Club and see a small local service club.
We see something different.
We see decades of neighbors rolling up their sleeves and saying, “What can we do?”
Since 1992, this mighty little club has been finding ways to serve Antelope, North Highlands and the surrounding communities. And when we started digging through the history, even WE were reminded just how much our Lions have accomplished. ❤️
Here are just a few receipts:
🍎 1,237 families helped.
During Antelope Feeding Antelope and Beyond, our volunteers and partners provided food to 4,855 people across 33 ZIP codes and distributed more than 22,000 pounds of food in just 12 weeks.
🏆 Recognized among the best in Lions worldwide.
That food project was named one of Lions Clubs International's Top 14 service projects worldwide and received the Kindness Matters Service Award.
👓 We’ve helped people see a little better.
Free vision screenings, Lions Vision Van events, eyeglass collection and recycling, children's sunglasses, and fundraising to help students who need glasses have all been part of our vision service.
🎓 We invest in local kids.
Our community-service scholarships have helped local graduating seniors pursue their next chapter—and our fundraising has also supported providing dictionaries to third graders.
🎄 We’ve been making Christmas memories for generations.
Our Antelope Christmas Hayride became a beloved community tradition, reaching its 24th annual event back in 2014. Santa, horses, hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas lights—yes, Lions know how to have fun while serving!
🎁 We’ve helped put presents and food under Christmas trees.
Through community Christmas toy and food drives, including partnerships around the Kars for Kids events, we've helped make the holidays brighter for local families.
🚒 We bring the community together around safety.
We’ve helped organize community safety events involving firefighters, CHP, CERT, Sheriff's K-9 and other organizations—because serving a community also means helping make it a safer one.
🥕 When our neighbors were hungry, we showed up.
During the pandemic, our food distributions were serving roughly 120 families a week—with food reaching about 450 people every week.
🛒 And we’re still fighting hunger.
We've continued partnering with local businesses and other Lions clubs, including the Grocery Outlet Independence from Hunger campaign, collecting food and donations for people who need them.
❤️ We support our seniors, too.
The Antelope Lions Club has been a donor supporting Meals on Wheels Sacramento and programs that help local seniors remain nourished and connected.
🎤 We believe in developing the next generation of leaders.
Scholarships, student speakers, youth programs and service opportunities have all been part of our commitment to helping young people grow into community leaders.
🤝 And perhaps our biggest accomplishment?
We’ve learned that small clubs can do BIG things when they work with other people who care.
Businesses. Schools. Churches. Other service clubs. Community organizations. Volunteers. Neighbors.
That's how a "mighty little club" makes a mighty big difference.
And here's the thing…
We aren't finished.
We don't need you to be an expert.
We don't need you to have hours and hours every week.
We don't need you to know anything about Lions.
We just need people who look at their community and say:
“I want to help.”
