This Field Day was a great success. It was mild temperatures thanks to the Delta Breeze. Wind hampered operations during the day .but calmed down at night. Members showed up to operate HF, CW, and Satellite. Fun was had by all and plans are already being made for next year. So stay tuned! For more pics go to our web page K6IS.org

Seeing that this will be our 11th Field Day Anniversary we can thank our own Joel,AI6DG for getting the Field Day up and running for our club. Prior to 2015 we didn’t have one due to lack of interest and other clubs had Field Day events going on.

Our first net was at Folsom Lake at Brown’s Point. There was discussion about different aspects of having at a State Park. There were stories about the Park Rangers not
letting us have it there and disturbing others with the generator and so on.

Well, nothing happened. The Rangers could care less and the only noise the interfered with anyone was the Loud High Speed boats and Waterbikes on the lake.

There were 3 of us. Joel, AI6DG, Doug, N6NFF/SK and Paul, KA6PDY. We had some contacts. We could hear a lot but they couldn’t hear us. It was fun and not too hot. We only stayed till it got dark and shut down. Since then it has gotten larger.

KA6PDY Testing out a new “to me” antenna mast. It’s a flag mast for the sail flags you see in front or near buisnesses for advertising. My wife came across it from where she works. They were cleaning out a room and were tossing out a 14’ and 18’ mast with their bases. They didn’t even know what they were. It’s fiber glass and comes in five sections which easily slides together . It weighs about 5 pounds but the base weighs about 15 pounds.

I tried my enfed antenna on it which is 16’. It worked well after erecting it without the base. Just secured it to my side view mirror with a bungie cord. The base is a solid spike ( it could kill someone!) and there wasn’t dirt around to pound it into. Just cement. I’m thinking of getting a base that goes under the car tire for support.

Anyway it worked! Just needs a way to connect to the top. I just used painters tape which worked. I didn’t make any contacts but that’s ok. The whole experiment was to see if it worked. The mast easily bends so the antenna can go in different angles. I don’t have a link or anything to supply you with.

NOTE: It could also be used as a fishing pole! Just attach some line and hook and there you go! 😂

This year for Field Day we will be at Branman Island State Park in the very South End of Sacramento County. Some will camp over. We reserved the group spots so, we’ll have plenty of room to operate! Hopefully not bother anyone else. Bring your fishing gear too! Talk In is 145.190 - PL 162.2

NOTE: As far as I knew it is called Brannan Island. The Park sign says Branman Island. Is it Miss spelled or is everyone else wrong ?
