Our Story

Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, is located at 1713 N. Tinsley in Angleton, TX. As a part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, it is the fourth church building to serve the Roman Catholics of Angleton and was dedicated on the Feast of the Holy Trinity, June 18, 2000 with Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza and priests of the Basilian Fathers presiding. The history of Angleton Catholics dates back to November of 1931 when Sacred Heart Church, located just north of Anchor Road near Front Street was dedicated. Prior to that, Catholics met in private homes and halls and some went to the neighboring town of Danbury where a resident priest was established. The joy of having Sacred Heart proved to be short-lived however as the structure was destroyed in a 1932 storm, less than one year after construction. Angleton Catholics waited almost 12 years before a church was to be established again when in 1944 the Basilian Fathers came to Angleton from Rosenberg. After receiving formal invitations from the local Hispanic community, the Basilian Fathers eventually took up residence and became the parish priests of the Church of St. Thomas Aquinas as a mission church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rosenberg. St. Thomas, located on South Erskine St., served both Spanish and English speaking residents. Then in August of 1957, the parish of St. Basil was canonically erected with the cornerstone laid in September 1959 and the first Mass celebrated on January 1, 1960. St Thomas Aquanis then became a mission of St. Basil parish serving the Spanish community. In 1994, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Basil were merged into one parish to serve the Angleton Catholic Community. On Palm Sunday, April 16, 2000 a new era began as it was unified under the name of Most Holy Trinity and held its first mass in a newly constructed facility at its current location. The facilities at the former location of St. Thomas Aquinas on Erskine street, now named St. Thomas Center, are the location of the parish's social ministry services, which include a resale shop, a community garden, financial assistance services to low income individuals and families, and a food pantry that serves all people in the Angleton community and surrounding communities in the county. In July 2016, the Basilian Fathers withdrew from the Angleton parish to concentrate their orders efforts in other areas and Most Holy Trinity continued under the leadership of diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Christian fellowship and new friendships abound at our weekly Sunday celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, as well as through other weekly activities and numerous ministries.
