Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar completed his Master of Arts (M.A.) in Economics at Columbia University, New York, marking a significant milestone in a remarkable academic journey that would shape modern India.
His M.A. thesis, "Ancient Indian Commerce," examined India's economic life in ancient times and reflected his early interest in economics, history, and social development. Alongside Economics, he studied Sociology, History, Philosophy, and Anthropology, building the interdisciplinary foundation that would later inform his work as a scholar, constitutionalist, economist, and social reformer.
At a time when millions in India were denied access to education because of caste discrimination, Ambedkar's achievement at one of the world's leading universities stood as a powerful statement on the transformative power of knowledge and perseverance.
