“Everything happens for a reason.”
It’s a phrase many of us have said—or heard—during difficult times. While it is often meant to bring comfort, it can sometimes unintentionally minimize someone’s pain or suggest that their suffering should make sense right away.
The reality is that when people are hurting, they often need compassion more than explanations. Scripture doesn’t call us to have all the answers; it calls us to “weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).
This thoughtful article reminds us that our hope is not in having a reason for everything that happens, but in trusting a God who is sovereign, good, and present with us even when we don’t understand.
Sometimes the most Christlike response is not, “Everything happens for a reason,” but simply, “I’m here for you.”
