Five Acres Founded in 1888, Five Acres believes that every child deserves a safe, loving and permanent family. Visit 5acres.org for more information.

Five Acres is a child and family service agency ensuring every child has a safe, healthy and permanent family solution through advocacy, prevention and evidence-based services. Established as an orphanage in 1888, today Five Acres offers programs spanning a full continuum of care including community – based counseling and support services, intensive residential care, a therapeutic school for special needs students, and foster care and adoption services. In 2017, Five Acres served over 8,700 children and their families across five counties.

On October 10, we celebrated our community and World Mental Health Day at our Fall Family Festival. It’s a reminder of what our Wear Your Heart initiative is all about: making space for children’s feelings and helping them feel seen, heard and supported. 💚🧡 When kids feel down, even the things they love can feel hard. As a parent, you can help by starting small. Take a walk together, play a favorite game or make time for something fun. Taking that first small step can help a child begin to feel better. You don’t have to fix their feelings. Just help them find a way forward, one step at a time.

💜A family gets the help they need to keep moving forward.
💕Over the years, Five Acres has grown its community-based mental and behavioral health programs to meet families where they are. Today, we serve more than 7,000 children and families each year. That’s what happens when a community believes children deserve care before they reach a breaking point.

Big feelings can lead to big worries. 💚🧡
When a child thinks, “Everything will go wrong” or “I’ll never make a friend,” those thoughts can shape how they feel. We can help children learn to pause, name their feelings, and look at their thoughts with curiosity instead of judgment. The goal isn’t to force positive thinking. It’s to help kids find thoughts that are more balanced, realistic and helpful. A simple reminder: We don’t have to believe every thought we have.
