This morning, we welcomed retired members of the Alpena Fire Department back to the station for breakfast, coffee, stories, and plenty of catching up.
For many of us, the fire service is more than a career, it’s a second family. The men and women who came before us helped build the department and traditions we’re proud to carry on today. From decades of calls, training, and long shifts together, the bond never really leaves.
One of the best parts of the morning was hearing stories from generations past, including from our oldest retiree, now in his 90s. The room was filled with laughter, memories, and reminders of how much history lives within these walls.
This was the first retired firefighters breakfast we’ve hosted at the station, but it certainly won’t be the last. We hope to continue making this an annual tradition and, more importantly, to always keep our doors open to those who dedicated so much of their lives to serving this community.
Thank you to all of our retirees who joined us this morning. Once part of the fire family, always part of the fire family.
