Just wanted to give our Allen Park artists a chance to participate in this contest being offered by Governor Whitmer. The deadline is in about a week, but if someone has a vision in the form of visual arts or literature, I wanted to let them know about the opportunity before it’s too late!:

“I’m calling on young, creative Michiganders to submit their best artwork for the program, inspired by the theme ‘Michigan’s Bright Future.’ I am asking students to come up with artwork that answers the question: ‘What does Michigan’s bright future look like to you?’ Students are welcome to use crayons, markers, paint, or any other material. To submit your design, please visit www.Michigan.gov/ArtContest and follow the instructions on the webpage.

New this year, I’m also asking young Michiganders to write their best short story or essay answering the question: ‘What do you love most about Michigan?’ The winning students’ writing will be featured as part of my State of the State Address next month. Reading and writing are ordinary superpowers that every Michigan student deserves to have. I’m excited for you to share your superpower with me! To submit your short story or essay, please visit the submission website and follow the instructions on the webpage. Together, we are improving literacy and setting our kids up for the bright futures they all deserve.

Submissions for both the writing and art contest will be accepted exclusively through the online system and must be received no later than 11:59PM on Sunday, February 15th.”

Back in April, the Michigan PTA celebrated the Reflections state-level winners at their annual convention! We were lucky enough to have two of our winners in the Literature category be able to attend and accept their awards in person 🏅🙌🏽 AND to hear Cole’s essay read on stage by the author himself. 👏🏼
Thanks to Cole and Jaxtin’s families for attending and honoring our amazing AP artists!
Congratulations again to all 5 of our state finalists, and to ALL of our student artists who participated…it was a great year, and it was a privilege to see, hear, or read every masterpiece that was submitted!

Our fantastic art teachers at the middle and high schools selected well over 100 pieces from our talented student artists to be displayed at the gallery in the WCCCD-Downriver building!
Some of the creations are touching, some are thought-provoking, some made my jaw drop with the skill and passion displayed. I SINCERELY hope to see many of these students participate in the Reflections program next year…sharing your visions would be a gift to everyone else!
The Reflections theme for next year is “I Belong!”

The art was viewable after a small reception on 3/13, and the show closes tomorrow, 4/4. The gallery is open 9-5pm tomorrow if you’re interested in stopping by to see some truly creative expression from AP! Congratulations to all of our student artists!
