WHAT IS YOUR CULTURE? Culture has several meanings depending on what we’re talking about… In general, it’s the traditions, arts, beliefs, and institutions of a particular group, ethnicity, region, faith, or community.

💚🤍In Allen Park, our schools celebrate Homecoming festivities in September with spirit days, a parade between the middle and high schools, and the APHS Homecoming dance.
🎃🥧With Halloween approaching, many people across America (and other countries!) will look for pumpkins to carve, for seasonal decorations, and to bake Autumn goodies!
⚽️🏟️The supporter group for our professional Detroit soccer team celebrates kickoff and scored goals at every home game by chanting and popping smoke bombs.

These are ALL examples of cultural traditions! Think about your own culture: local, national, ethnic, religious…how do you celebrate? What does it mean to you?

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to support the Allen Park Reflections program! We don’t have a lot of yearly expenses, but we do have award and certificate printing costs, signage/advertising costs, and minor expenses associated with the reception ceremony to honor our participants. Every little bit really helps us curb those numbers!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR STATE REFLECTIONS WINNERS!!!
Of the 21 district finalists, Allen Park had fully 1/3 of our students get recognition at the State level! An astonishing seven students received honors from the Michigan PTA, with two literature entries getting top marks and moving on to compete in the National PTA judging. We’ll find out in May if Jasmin and Max receive any honors at the National level!

We are SO proud of EVERYONE who participated and thankful to all our helpers…we couldn’t have done it without you!

Just wanted to give our Allen Park artists a chance to participate in this contest being offered by Governor Whitmer. The deadline is in about a week, but if someone has a vision in the form of visual arts or literature, I wanted to let them know about the opportunity before it’s too late!:

“I’m calling on young, creative Michiganders to submit their best artwork for the program, inspired by the theme ‘Michigan’s Bright Future.’ I am asking students to come up with artwork that answers the question: ‘What does Michigan’s bright future look like to you?’ Students are welcome to use crayons, markers, paint, or any other material. To submit your design, please visit www.Michigan.gov/ArtContest and follow the instructions on the webpage.

New this year, I’m also asking young Michiganders to write their best short story or essay answering the question: ‘What do you love most about Michigan?’ The winning students’ writing will be featured as part of my State of the State Address next month. Reading and writing are ordinary superpowers that every Michigan student deserves to have. I’m excited for you to share your superpower with me! Due to the crazy schedule and unavailability of our judges for the next week, the Council Reflections committee has decided to REOPEN the submission window for our district contest. We are hoping to see more entries come in as we prep the already submitted entries for judging!
