In honor of our namesake angel Gianna’s birthday on Monday, The Gianna Effect Foundation continued our annual tradition this week of donating “beauty bags” to patients undergoing childhood cancer treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Gianna immersed herself in the world of beauty as a joyful outlet of expression when she lost her hair from chemotherapy. Her interest in online makeup tutorials, and her burgeoning skillset becoming a talented make up artist herself, inspired us to start this initiative of paying it forward for those undergoing treatment now. We continue to include an alternating mix of some of Gianna‘s favorite products and assemble these gifts for beautiful warriors at MSK around her birthday.

THANK YOU to our team members Jacqui D., Melodie K., and Pam V. for helping to coordinate, assemble, and deliver these beautiful gifts. 💛🌻

And THANK YOU to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for always assisting us in continuing our charitable efforts at GEF, including but not limited to, our medical trial donations, our GG ice cream socials in summer, our room decoration baskets in winter, our holiday decoration donations, and our springtime Good Morning Gorgeous initiative. 💛🌻

Lastly…THANK YOU, our generous supporters, for making donations and attending our events. Your gracious contributions allow us to perform these acts of kindness in Gianna’s honor whenever we can. More announcements to come. 💛🌻

Word on the street is that some very special GEF elves were hard at work setting up Santa’s Workshop last night at Good Shepherd! 🎄

Christmastime is giving time all around the world, and for the GEF team, it is time to drop off gift cards to Ronald McDonald House and Memorial Sloan Kettering along with our kids’ decoration baskets for a dose of holiday joy. ❤️💚

Our namesake angel Gianna LOVED Christmas and her family knows firsthand how decorating and seeing holiday colors and activities can bring a moment of happy reprieve to children going through tough times during this time of year. The Gianna Effect Foundation’s team is honored to source and assemble these gifts (made possible with your donations) year after year. 🌻🎄

Thank you to Nicholas and Jennifer Gambino for adding an additional present in Gianna’s honor this year to our holiday drop-offs - Sunflower Lego sets. 💛

And thank you to all the wonderful, hardworking and heartwarming staff members at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Ronald McDonald House for providing care to the littlest troopers during the holidays and beyond. 🎅🏻🧑🏻‍🎄

The Gianna Effect Foundation kicked off their 2025 Giving Holiday Season with the annual tree lighting at The Historic Lott House last week, and it truly was an incredibly lovely (and cold) December night in Brooklyn.

For several years, the Gambino family has made it a point to donate Christmas decorations, gifts, trees, and more to the community that helped shape our namesake angel Gianna; as well as the organizations that provided her treatment and support to her family during her cancer battle. Gianna was a true Christmas enthusiast, and helping others experience joy in her honor in a meaningful mission.

Please take a moment to learn more about the uber-interesting Hendrick I. Lott House (still standing in Marine Park after first being inhibited in 1720!), and join us for our next tree lighting at Good Shepherd Church (in Gianna’s Garden on Batchelder) this Saturday evening. 🎄🌻

A very special GEF thank you goes out to all of the amazing volunteers at The Lott House, Sinterklass, and the wonderfully festive singers and dancers from PS 222 and Fillmore Academy. 🫶🏻
