Agawam Little League

Agawam Little League The A.L.L. is a non-profit organization focused on providing Agawam youth the opportunity to learn and play the great game of baseball.

The Agawam Little League is a non-profit organization whose mission is to "promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball." Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists children in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being.

By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes. Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league. **Mayor Files Emergency Court Action to Put Agawam Softball Back in Championship**

Agawam Mayor Christopher Johnson has ordered emergency legal action in an effort to restore the Agawam High School girls’ softball team to the Western Massachusetts Championship game after the team was ruled ineligible over a preseason paperwork error.

Town attorneys filed for injunctive relief in Hampden County Superior Court Wednesday at the request of Superintendent Sheila Martin, arguing the clerical oversight — listing two possible postseason games instead of three on a scheduling form — gave the team no competitive advantage.

Officials say the decision unfairly punishes the players, including five seniors now facing the possibility of losing their final chance to compete for a Western Mass title over what the town calls a purely administrative mistake.

Softball update from AD Karen Gomez

Parents & Families,

Mr. Blain and I have been invited to a Zoom session with representatives of the MIAA tomorrow at 10:30AM. We will update the softball community of players, coaches, and families. We will continue to advocate for our inclusion in the Western Massachusetts Softball Tournament through the finals. At this time we do not know if a final resolution will come during the meeting, but will communicate exactly what we learn.

Many of these young ladies played through Agawam Little League and continue to give back to the program. We ask that you do not punish the players for an administrative error that was caught prior to the tournament beginning. (Please send emails to [email protected]

To Whom It May Concern(Tournament Committee),

I am writing on behalf of Agawam Little League to respectfully request that the Agawam High School softball team be permitted to participate in any Western Massachusetts postseason games or tournaments for which they have rightfully qualified.

It is our understanding that a clerical or administrative error resulted in the team not being eligible to play in the finals. The student-athletes, coaches, and families dedicated significant time, effort, and commitment throughout the season to earn their opportunity to compete. Penalizing the players for an administrative oversight would unfairly impact students who had no involvement in the error itself.

High school athletics are intended to reward hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. The Agawam softball players have demonstrated those qualities throughout the season and deserve the opportunity to compete based on their on-field performance and accomplishments.

In addition, many of these student-athletes generously donate their time back to Agawam Little League and other community programs, helping mentor and further develop the town’s younger athletes. They serve as positive role models within the community and consistently demonstrate leadership both on and off the field.

We respectfully ask the MIAA to consider the circumstances surrounding this matter and allow the team to participate in all qualifying Western Massachusetts games and postseason opportunities.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued support of student-athletes across Massachusetts.

Sincerely,

AJ Christopher
President
