The Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center is a nonprofit organization located in Abingdon, Virginia whose mission is to empower youth and adults through experiential skills building programs, day and residential camping programs, and educational and cultural outreach partnerships. It has provided transformative experiences for youth and adults from throughout the region and beyond since 1960.

Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center facilities, programs and employment are open to all, regardless of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information, veteran status, or any other basis protected by law. The Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center and Virginia Cooperative Extension operate in partnership with Virginia Tech, Virginia State University, the U.S.

Would your 3rd - 8th grader be interested in learning to play an instrument? Then JAM is the program for them!

Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) is an after-school program that introduces music through small group instruction on instruments common to the Appalachian region, such as fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitar.

In JAM, instrument instruction is often augmented by dance and vocal instruction as well as string band classes and group enrichment lessons, which introduce children to additional Appalachian culture and history. Local experts, visiting artists, and an introduction to the rich history of music unique to each local community further supplement program offerings.

Several people have reached out to check on us. Thankfully, we did not experience any severe weather, and everyone is safe. We took the necessary precautions, and we are grateful to report that there was no damage to our property and no injuries to anyone.
