Today, we honour the fathers who show their love through presence, guidance, sacrifice and care.

Thank you to the men who protect their families, encourage their children, teach by example and remain steady through difficult times. Your influence is seen in the confidence, values and hope of the children and young people you nurture.

We also recognise the grandfathers, guardians, mentors and community leaders who have stepped forward to provide fatherly love and support.

Day of the African Child 2026

Today, NCM-E joins the continent in commemorating the Day of the African Child.

This year’s theme reminds us that a safe and dignified childhood begins with the essentials: clean water, safe sanitation, good hygiene, protection, care, and the presence of adults who listen.

For every child, these are not luxuries, but they are the foundation of health, learning, confidence, and hope. A child who is protected, heard, and supported is better able to grow, dream, and participate fully in the life of their family and community.

At Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Eswatini, we believe that the welfare and protection of children must remain at the heart of our work. We continue to stand with children, families, churches, communities, and partners in building environments where every child is safe, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

On this Day of the African Child, may we renew our commitment not only to speak about children’s rights, but to defend them in our homes, schools, churches, and communities.

Today, NCM-E participated in the Quality Improvement Meeting for READY+ supported health facilities, convened by the Ministry of Health through the Quality Management Program, in collaboration with PATA under the READY+ Program.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Management Teams, supported health facilities, and READY+ partners to reflect on the programme's impact, sustainability, quality improvement, and the story emerging from the data.

A key part of the discussion focused on what READY+ has achieved and what the evidence is telling us about services for adolescents and young people. The data helped participants reflect not only on progress made, but also on the areas where implementation can be strengthened to improve the quality of care.

An important part of this reflection was led by Winile Dlamini-Vermaak, NCM-E’s READY+ Project Coordinator, who outlined the programme’s achievements, areas requiring further strengthening, and the broad direction of the next iteration of READY+. Her presentation helped connect the programme’s impact to the practical work ahead: learning from the evidence, strengthening facility-level systems, and ensuring that gains made through READY+ are sustained.

Participants also engaged with the READY+ scorecard and Quality Improvement Plans, exploring how these tools can support facilities to move from evidence to action. The discussions focused on ownership, learning, and the practical steps needed to maintain momentum beyond the current project cycle.

The goal is to ensure that the programme’s impact continues through stronger systems, better documentation of lessons learned, and sustained commitment at facility, regional, and national levels.

NCM-E remains grateful to the Ministry of Health, RHMTs, health facility teams, PATA, and all partners for their continued commitment to quality, collaboration, and compassionate care.

Today is World Day Against Child Labour

A child may help at home, learn, and embrace responsibility, but no child should be forced into work that keeps them from school, exposes them to harm, or steals their right to rest, play and grow.

Our stance against child labour is a decision to uphold and strengthen children's educational prospects, health, dignity, and future.

As Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Eswatini, we stand for the protection, care and well-being of every child. Children belong in safe homes, caring communities and classrooms where they can learn, dream and develop their God-given potential.

It is difficult to pin down the essence of any organisation, much less to convey that essence to the public. The scale and division of labour required by any modern organisation can create a natural distance between the work being done and the people whose lives it is meant to touch. At NCM-E, we have often reflected on this challenge.

As an organisation that places compassion at the centre of everything we do, we believe that social programmes alone are not enough. Programmes, policies and outreach matter deeply, but they must also be animated by the spirit that inspires them. They must be carried by people who can listen, encourage, guide and walk alongside others.

For this reason, we have shaped our work around a strategy that places human connection at the heart of each programme. At the 21 Days of Y’ello Care activation in Matsapha, that strategy was on full display.

Our peer supporters are among the clearest expression of that approach. They do more than share information or support activities on the day. They help build trust. They create spaces where young people feel seen, heard and understood. They serve as a bridge between services and community members, and they remind us that meaningful support is often carried through relationship as much as through structure.

In many ways, they are the heartbeat of our programmes. Their presence brings warmth to our work, credibility to our outreach, and a human face to the care we seek to provide. Through every conversation, every explanation, every moment of encouragement and every act of attentiveness, they make our mission tangible.

We are proud of the contribution our peer supporters make, and in the coming weeks and months we will be introducing more of them and sharing more about the work they do. Their contribution deserves to be seen, and their stories deserve to be told.

Because at the heart of effective community work is not only strategy or service delivery, but people reaching people with dignity, compassion and care.

NCM-E Joins 21 Days of Y’ello Care Community Outreach

Today, the NCM-E team joined MTN Eswatini and fellow partners for another 21 Days of Y’ello Care community outreach event.

The day brought together health partners, civil society organisations, community stakeholders and members of the public around a shared purpose: bringing services, information and support closer to the people who need them.

NCM-E took the opportunity to engage community members, share information about our work, promote awareness of HIV prevention and treatment, and connect people with services that support healthier, more resilient communities.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came from a spirited and charming dance performance by a police officer, who brought warmth, laughter and energy to the event. She truly stole the show and reminded everyone that community outreach is also about joy, connection and shared humanity.

We were encouraged by the conversations with young people, caregivers, community members and frontline stakeholders who continue to show how important it is to meet people where they are.

Partnership makes outreach stronger. We are grateful to MTN Eswatini and all participating partners for creating spaces where communities can access information, ask questions and connect with support.

Every child deserves safety, dignity, care and the chance to grow in a protective environment. As NCM-E, we remain committed to that great injunction of Christ:

Today, the NCM-E team was at Hosea Inkhundla for the 21 Days of Yello Care Launch, standing alongside our partners in the shared effort to improve community access to health services, education, and support.

Two moments stood out to us during the event.

The first was a conversation with Community Police Officer Phinda Dlamini, who came over to learn more about the services NCM-E provides. Simphiwe Matsebula, our focal person for the READY+ programme, was first on the scene to engage with him and address his questions.

Officer Dlamini’s questions were direct and thoughtful, and they evinced a deep understanding of the community he serves. What impressed us most was his knowledge of the social challenges facing Hosea, his experience with community-based programmes, and his clear concern for the well-being of young people and families.

One of his most important questions was how NCM-E reaches and supports adolescents, especially since the day’s event had drawn more older community members than young people.

This was a question close to the heart of our work. Ms Matsebula explained the READY+ peer mentor model, through which trained young people provide guidance, encouragement, and support to their peers. Through mentorship, life skills development, psychosocial support, and linkages to health services, peer mentors help young people navigate adolescence while building confidence, resilience, and healthier futures.

The conversation was a powerful reminder that lasting community development is built through partnership. It requires committed community members, dedicated public servants, and organisations working together to identify challenges and find practical solutions.

We were encouraged by Officer Dlamini’s passion for his community and look forward to continuing to work with stakeholders who share the vision of empowering young people and strengthening communities.

The second moment that stood out was seeing the Minister of Health, Hon. Mduduzi Matsebula, engage in a meaningful discussion with Winile Dlamini Vermaak, the READY+ Project Coordinator, about the READY+ programme.

The discussion reflected the Ministry’s continued concern for young people and its support for NCM-E and its partners. Mrs. Dlamini Vermaak, fully conversant with the scope and progress of the programme, used the opportunity to update the Minister on the gains made through READY+.

These achievements have been made possible through strong partnerships and the Ministry’s continued support. Moments like these remind us why collaboration matters: when communities, government, and civil society work together, young people are better supported, families are strengthened, and communities move closer to a healthier future.

Children and young people are not passive recipients, they are active participants in shaping their own future and supporting those around them.

Yesterday we had a meaningful session with Rural Health Motivators( RHMs) from Mafutseni Inkhundla on Community Parenting, equipping them with skills to better support children, adolescents and young people in our communities.

Children are like young plants when nurtured with love, guidance, protection and support they can grow strong and resilient. By investing in their wellbeing today, we are preparing a generation that can face challenges with confidence and contribute positively to the community. Our harvest is the next generation strong, responsible and empowered young people who will continue building healthier and safer communities for all.
