Today, as we commemorate the Day of the African Child, SOS Children's Villages Eswatini joins the nation, the continent, and the global community in advocating for the rights and well-being of every child under the 2026 theme: "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa."
At SOS Children's Villages, we firmly believe that access to clean water, adequate sanitation, and proper hygiene is not a privilege but a fundamental right for every child. These essential services are critical for children's health, education, protection, dignity, and overall development. No child should have to miss school due to a lack of safe water, suffer preventable illnesses, or grow up in environments that compromise their well-being.
As we reflect on the progress made and the challenges that remain, we stand in solidarity with children across Eswatini and Africa in calling for increased investment, stronger partnerships, and sustainable solutions that guarantee universal access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services. When children have access to these basic necessities, they are healthier, safer, and better equipped to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
Through our programmes and partnerships, SOS Children's Villages remains committed to supporting initiatives that improve access to clean water and promote healthy hygiene practices in the communities we serve. We recognize that creating a caring and protective environment for children requires collective action from Eswatini government, development partners, the private sector, communities, families, and individuals.
On this Day of the African Child, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every child grows up in an environment where their rights are respected, their voices are heard, and their basic needs are met. Together, let us work towards a future where every child in Eswatini has access to clean water, safe sanitation facilities, and hygiene services that enable them to thrive.
Every child deserves clean water. Every child deserves dignity. Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.
