The intersection near KFC Eswatini Manzini Bus Rank and the Manzini Main Bus Rank is currently undergoing upgrades aimed at improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety in the city centre. Recent road rehabilitation and mobility improvement projects have focused on key public transport corridors around the bus rank and Ngwane Street.

While the road markings are still being finalized, the current lane lines are already visible. The expected installation of bold white zebra crossings will significantly improve pedestrian visibility and help create safer crossing points for the thousands of commuters who use the Manzini Bus Rank intersection daily.

The Manzini Main Bus Rank remains one of the busiest transport hubs in Eswatini, connecting commuters from across the country and the region. Improved road markings and clearly defined pedestrian crossings are particularly important in this high-traffic environment, where pedestrians, buses, kombis, and private vehicles interact constantly.

The ongoing upgrades represent a positive step toward a safer and more accessible urban environment, and the completed zebra crossings are expected to further strengthen pedestrian protection at this critical intersection.

Mobility Snapshots 2026

The 2026 Week of Action is a global road safety campaign led by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. The campaign brings together civil society organizations, governments, communities, and road safety stakeholders to demand urgent action to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries worldwide.

The campaign focuses on transforming commitments into real action by advocating for safer roads, improved walking and cycling infrastructure, lower vehicle speeds, safer public transport systems, and stronger protection for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, children, and persons with disabilities. It also supports the objectives of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This campaign is especially important for Eswatini because road crashes continue to claim lives and negatively impact families, communities, and the national economy. Many people, particularly pedestrians and children, remain highly vulnerable due to speeding, unsafe road infrastructure, inadequate walking and cycling facilities, and limited road safety awareness.

For Eswatini, the campaign presents an important opportunity to:

Raise public awareness on road safety issues

Encourage stronger political commitment and accountability

Promote safer school zones and pedestrian infrastructure

Advocate for Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) such as walking and cycling

Strengthen partnerships between government, civil society, and communities and

Position road safety not only as a transport issue, but also as a public health, development, climate, and social justice issue.

The campaign also empowers local organizations and communities by giving them a stronger voice in influencing road safety policies and decision-making processes.

Following the campaign, we expect to see:

Increased public awareness and community engagement on road safety matters
