Unity is the cornerΒstone of develΒopΒment - SenΒator Tony

SENATOR Tony Sibandze has urged resΒidΒents of MpoΒlonΒjeni Inkhundla to priΒorΒitΒise unity and sharΒing experΒiΒences to develop their comΒmunitΒies.
Five chiefΒdoms under MpoΒlonΒjeni Inkhundla came together on SatΒurday to parΒtiΒcipΒate on the final day of sportΒing and culΒtural comΒpetΒiΒtions which were sponsored by ScalΒisa FoundΒaΒtion, and supΒporΒted by other comΒpanΒies such as MulaSΒport, MTN EswatΒini and Spar, amongst othΒers.

The comΒpetΒiΒtions, which comΒprised footΒball, netΒball and culΒtural activΒitΒies have been runΒning over the past two months.

The parΒtiΒcipΒatΒing teams came from five chiefΒdoms namely, KaShoba, Ngcina, MpoΒlonΒjeni, NdzΒangu and Etjeni (Sigcaweni East).

Founder and DirΒector of ScalΒisa FoundΒaΒtion, SenΒator Tony Sibandze, said the comΒpetΒiΒtions were more about proΒmotΒing unity amongst the comΒmunitΒies and exposΒing talΒent amongst the youth.

Sibandze noted that the comΒpetΒiΒtions also brought together traΒdiΒtional leadΒers from the five chiefΒdoms, which led to the huge sucΒcess of the event.

He thereΒfore urged the resΒidΒents to use the experΒiΒence which was gained through the comΒpetΒiΒtions in impleΒmentΒing comΒmunity projects.

He noted that the kind of unity which was disΒplayed by the resΒidΒents became the main factor which led to the sucΒcess of the charΒity iniΒtiΒatΒive. "The comΒpetΒiΒtions grew into something bigΒger than what we had iniΒtially planned, and this was because of the input we received from the traΒdiΒtional leadΒers and all other stakeΒholdΒers," he said. IndΒvuna of KaShoba Zachious Motsa said the was happy to parΒtiΒcipΒate in an iniΒtiΒatΒive which brought the comΒmunitΒies together.

"We have noted the posΒitΒive impact of the iniΒtiΒatΒive as we saw resΒidΒents from the difΒferΒent chiefΒdoms parΒtiΒcipΒatΒing with comΒmitΒment," he said.

Motsa noted that one of the factors which norΒmally delayed develΒopΒment in comΒmunitΒies was the never endΒing disΒputes between chiefΒdoms.

"If we could use this spirit of unity in more other projects, we can achieve more as the

he said.

BucoΒpho of MpoΒlonΒjeni Gcina Gwebu, who is also a memΒber of

inner counΒcil, echoed Motsa, adding that the comΒpetΒiΒtions conΒtribΒuted immensely to the fight against crime and subΒstance abuse amongst the youth.

Gwebu noted that the youth found themΒselves busy with their sportΒing activΒitΒies as opposed to idling at home.

A memΒber of LutΒsango from Etjeni Bonsile Dlamini said the iniΒtiΒatΒive was more than just comΒpetΒiΒtions but a proΒmoΒtion of culΒture and sharΒing of experΒiΒences. Dlamini's team was placed fourth in the comΒpetΒiΒtions, and walked away with E1 500.

"We have actuΒally gained more than just the prize money in the comΒpetΒiΒtions as we were happy to come together as lutΒsango of the Inkhundla," she said. The event was attenΒded by SenΒate Deputy PresΒidΒent NduΒmiso Mdluli, MinΒisΒter of Sports, CulΒture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, SenΒator Stukie Motsa, SenΒator Sicelo Dlamini and PLE ChairΒman Polycarp Dlamini, amongst other digΒnitΒarΒies.

Eswatini Observer 22 September 2026:

THE ScalΒisa FoundΒaΒtion sports and culΒtural comΒpetΒiΒtions has revived hope amongst the youth of MpoΒlonΒjeni Inkhundla.
The charΒity organΒisaΒtion hosΒted the grand finale of the comΒpetΒiΒtions which starΒted two months ago. Five chiefΒdoms namely, Ngcina, KaShoba, MpoΒlonΒjeni, NdzΒangu and Etjeni parΒtiΒcipΒated in the comΒpetΒiΒtions which feaΒtured footΒball, netΒball and culΒtural activΒitΒies. Amongst the parΒtiΒcipΒatΒing teams, MpoΒlonΒjeni netΒball team was crowned chamΒpiΒons. They pockΒeted E3 000 and a playΒing kit. CapΒtain of the team NelΒiswa MkhuΒmane said the comΒpetΒiΒtions were more than just about the prizeΒmoneyto the youth of MpoΒlonΒjeni. MkhuΒmane stated that for the past two months, the youth experΒiΒenced slight relief over the many chalΒlenges they face. She highΒlighted that a majorΒity of the youth were unemΒployed and could not susΒtain themΒselves.

She said it was for this reason that some of the youth were engaΒging in crime and subΒstance abuse. MkhuΒmane said the youth was often found idling at home, a situΒation which tempΒted them to engage in unbeΒcomΒing behaΒviour.

DurΒing the course of the comΒpetΒiΒtions, MkhuΒmane said the youth were usuΒally busy with preΒparΒaΒtions durΒing the week and comΒpetΒing onweekΒends. FurΒtherΒmore, she said they were able to estabΒlish relaΒtions with other youth from the difΒferΒent comΒmunitΒies. She disΒclosed that through these new relaΒtions, they are now workΒing on estabΒlishΒing develΒopΒment schemes in their comΒmunitΒies.

β€œSome of us have not been aware of posΒsible fundΒing which we can access at our inkhundla, until ScalΒisa FoundΒaΒtion starΒted the weekΒend gathΒerΒings,” said

MkhuΒmane.β€œWewΒish to have more such comΒpetΒiΒtions that will bring the youth together,” MkhuΒmane added.

MeanΒwhile, KaShoba LutΒsango memΒber LomthantΒazo NdzinΒisa thanked the organΒisers of the comΒpetΒiΒtions which brought together resΒidΒents from the difΒferΒent comΒmunitΒies. NdzinΒisa said the comΒpetΒiΒtions were helpΒful, not only to the youth but also to LutΒsango.

Captain of Hot Chillies FC receiving the trophy from Senate Deputy President Senator Ndumiso Mdluli while Sicalisa Foundation founder Senator Tony Sibandze looks on.
The tournament, which began about two months ago featured 20 teams from five communities: KaShoba, Ngcina, Mpolonjeni, Ndzangu and Etjeni. 18 teams came from the Promotions League while two competed in the Super League.

The grand finale was preceded by cultural performances and a social football match between two teams comprising people with disabilities. The much-anticipated final kicked off at 3pm and attracted thousands of spectators from near and far.

The match lived up to expectations with both teams displaying a high standard of football.

However, neither side could convert its chances with the match ending goalless after regulation time.

Under the tournament regulations, the final went straight to a penalty shootout.

Hot Chillies emerged victorious with a 4-2 win after Madadeni Real Madrid missed two of their first four penalties.

The champions pocketed E10 000 and received a trophy while the runners-up took home E6 000 and silver medals.

In the third-place playoff, Young Zebras defeated City Rollers 1-0. YoungZebras receivedE4 000 while City Rollers took home E3 000.

Speaking during the prize presentation, Scalisa Foundation founder Senator Tony Sibandze thanked the stakeholders and communities for contributing to the tournament's success.

Sibandze said the tournament was about more than the prize money, describing it as an initiative aimed at promoting and developing young football talent.

He added that some senior teams in the country had already expressed interest in players who were identified during the tournament.

The Scalisa FoundationTournament is expected to return next year during the football off-season.
