Today, we celebrate the fathers and father figures who lead with strength, love, and dedication. 💙

Whether through words of encouragement, acts of sacrifice, or simply being present, fathers play an important role in shaping the lives of those around them. Their guidance, support, and commitment leave a lasting impact on families, communities, and future generations.

On this Father’s Day, we take a moment to recognize and appreciate all the incredible dads who continue to inspire, protect, and empower others every day.

JCI Unify held its game night, The Green Arena, on 5 June.✨

Members from across different chapters came together for an evening of friendly competition, where selected representatives from each chapter duked it out in a competitive game centered on environmental awareness and green-related themes.

Teams went through quiz challenges, picture recognition rounds, and a fun Family Feud finale based on answers from our fellow Jaycees. Participants tested their knowledge while having a blast and connecting with one another.

Even after the event, compliments were shared that everyone had a great time and would surely attend another event like The Green Arena.

Congratulations to our winning team, a collaboration between JCI Paramaribo and JCI Urban! These two chapters came together and formed a formidable team that rose to the top, bringing pride to their chapters, gaining bragging rights, and earning the title of Green Champion.

The winning team was rewarded with a custom Green Arena keychain as proof of victory, a lovely house plant, and TBL tickets to enjoy a fun night after the event.

The championship team consisted of:

While only one team could take home the title, every participant contributed to the energy and success of the evening. The laughter, friendly rivalry, and conversations among all present at the event showed exactly what JCI fellowship is all about.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Surinaamse Rode Kruis for generously providing the venue free of charge. Their support greatly contributed to the success of the event and was truly appreciated.

Thank you as well to everyone who participated, supported, and helped organize The Green Arena. Together, we demonstrated that environmental awareness can be both educational and engaging.

📚Human Duty 6: Educate Yourself, Teach Others

Door kennis op te doen en deze vervolgens te delen, creëren we kansen voor groei, innovatie en duurzame ontwikkeling. De Hydroponics Training 2026 was een mooi voorbeeld van deze missie in actie.

JCI Unify organiseerde de intensieve Hydroponics Training 2026.
Tijdens deze tweedaagse training kregen deelnemers praktische tools aangereikt om duurzame landbouw en innovatieve teeltmethoden succesvol toe te passen.

Dag 1, 29 Mei 2026: Stond in het teken van de basisprincipes van hydroponics en het versterken van essentiële vaardigheden.

Dag 2, 30 Mei 2026: Richtte zich op praktijkoefeningen en het toepassen van kennis in realistische scenario’s.

De energie en betrokkenheid van de deelnemers lieten zien dat er een sterke wil is om te groeien en samen impact te maken. Het was een inspirerende start van een traject gericht op leren en ontwikkelen.

📚Human Duty 6: Educate Yourself, Teach Others

One of the greatest perks of living in the most forested countries in the world is that we breathe clean air for free. However, increasing urbanization poses a serious threat to this invaluable resource. The time to act is now.

Through the Sustainable Green Ambassador (SGA) Project, we anticipated this challenge by engaging the children of Elim van de Heer in an interactive reading session using the book Sustainable Green Ambassador.

Together, we explored the importance of clean air, the many benefits it provides, and the ways human activities contribute to air pollution. The session encouraged the children to make environmentally responsible and healthy lifestyle choices.

With this activity, we successfully concluded the SGA reading sessions under this project, during which we explored the themes of water, biodiversity, earth, and air. By empowering young minds with environmental knowledge today, we are helping to build a more sustainable tomorrow.🌱

Keynote Speaker Introduction!!!

Meet the Keynote speaker Max Huisden – Professor of Environmental Sciences at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS). Board member of the Faculty of Technological Sciences (FTeW) and Coordinator of the Environmental Sciences program.
He is actively involved in various organizations dedicated to the protection, conservation, and restoration of the environment; he also promotes initiatives aimed at fostering green and sustainable development.

He serves as Chairman of the Water Forum Suriname (WFS) and is a member of the Water Platform, where he provides advisory support to the Minister of Natural Resources.

Join us for an engaging and solution-driven panel discussion with experts and stakeholders as we explore the challenges, opportunities, and sustainable pathways for Suriname’s future.

Meet panelist Samunda Jabini – a Saamaka Afro-descendant tribal peoples’ rights defender and Project Manager at VSG (Association for Saamaka Communities). Her work spans territorial rights advocacy, environmental governance, and international representation. She consistently amplifies Saamaka voices in global policy spaces.

A storyteller, facilitator, and sociologist by training, Samunda advocates for Indigenous and Tribal Peoples’ rights and works to address threats posed by extractive industries, including artisanal mining, logging, and poaching.
